Leaf is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and can be obtained from the enemies Leafan and Bulby. When acquiring this ability, Kirby gains a crown of leaves with a brooch at the base with a green gem inset, similar to the Fire tiara. Leaf Kirby's attacks include swirling razor-sharp leaves and throwing them mostly in a vortex fashion. These leaves, like Cutter blades and similar projectiles, are able to cut ropes. In addition, Leaf Kirby also receives a unique Guard, where instead of standing in defensive pose like he normally would, Kirby hides in a leaf pile, which renders him immune to almost all attacks. With its unique Guard and the ability to attack from medium range, Leaf is a defensive ability that cautious players can use very effectively.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Leaf debuts in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, also appears in the remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and is encountered fairly early in the game. It can be obtained from the enemies Leafan and Bulby, neither of which put up much of a fight.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Kirby using "Leaf Uppercut" on Paintra in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Leaf returns in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Some of its moves were slightly changed in this game and future titles. Leaf Attack now only launches one to two leaves depending on how many leaves have already been thrown instead of two to three—but in exchange, the move can be used in succession quicker—and Leaf Rain only launches three leaves instead of five, with the leaves being more spread apart to compensate, however the move also cannot be used in succession as quickly. Any leaf projectiles thrown also now stick to surfaces for a bit before disappearing, however this is only a visual change. It is encountered much less often than in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
