Spear

“ | That spear... Did you join the Waddle Dee army or something?! Spears are great for both thrusting and throwing? Get the point?! | ” | — Knuckle Joe's comment in Kirby Battle Royale |
Spear is a Copy Ability which debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land that grants Kirby a sturdy spear to jab his enemies with. Using the spear, Kirby can easily strike enemies and objects at a safe distance, as well as through walls. Spear is exceptionally useful underwater, allowing Kirby to strike in all four directions, and reach areas where most other abilities could not. Kirby can also toss his spear like a javelin, causing it to move forward, then down in an arc (and unlike the Hammer ability, Kirby will not lose the spear when doing so). When Kirby acquires the Spear ability, he gains a hat which resembles a soldier's headband. Like other abilities featuring sharp utensils, Spear is capable of cutting ropes.
Starting with Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Bandana Waddle Dee also has a move-set largely based on the Spear ability. As such, it is often the case that Spear Kirby does not appear in a Kirby title because Bandana Waddle Dee is playable in it instead.

Kirby Battle Royale[edit]
Spear is one of the abilities that can be chosen from in this competitive multiplayer title. It is similar to Sword, though it focuses more on pinpoint accuracy and range, as opposed to Sword's wider area of attack. In addition, the spear can also be tossed for a quick and effective attack at range.

Kirby Star Allies, Kirby Fighters 2, & Kirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]
Spear does not appear in these games as a Copy Ability, but Bandana Waddle Dee wields one as his weapon, thus being an effective version of the Spear ability in these games. In Kirby Star Allies, like other weapon-based abilities, Bandana Waddle Dee's spear can be imbued with Power Effects, which bear names like "Bluster Spear", "Sizzle Spear", etc. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, it has no direct equivalent to the Copy Ability evolution system for Kirby, instead Bandana Waddle Dee will simply deal more damage depending on how much Kirby's current Copy Ability is evolved.

Trivia[edit]
- So far, Spear and Needle are the only Copy Abilities which are translated as only one Chinese character (槍/枪) in the official localization, instead of two or three characters which are more common.
