Spear Waddle Dee
| ||||||||||||||||
|
- This article is about Waddle Dees who wield a spear. For Waddle Dees in a general context, see Waddle Dee.
Spear Waddle Dees are a spear-wielding variant of Waddle Dees encountered throughout the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby Canvas Curse. Spear Waddle Dees may appear to either not do much with their spear (instead having a longer reach to hit the player) or make use of it greatly as a melee or throwable weapon in some games where they appear. So far, Spear Waddle Dees grant no ability when swallowed, as they currently do not appear as enemies in games where the Spear ability is available.

Spear Waddle Dee debuts in this title, and can be seen among regular Waddle Dees in various places. They will attempt to toss their spears at Kirby, but cannot throw them very far. As such, they are more dangerous from above than in any other direction.

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
Spear Waddle Dee appears in this title, specifically in Revenge of the King, in the levels Crash Clouds and The Revenge. Spear Waddle Dees can be seen patrolling the halls of the castle with their spears aimed either forward or upward. All this really succeeds in doing, however, is extending their reach somewhat, as they do not know how to thrust with the spears. Some Parasol Waddle Dees can also be seen with spears.
Spear Waddle Dee also appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.
Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]
“ | This fake Waddle Dee recklessly twirls around a spear. Look out! | ” | — Patch Plaza description from Kirby's Epic Yarn |
Spear Waddle Dees appear in these titles. They behave much like the normal ones, but carry a spear ahead of themselves when walking, which will cause Kirby or Prince Fluff to lose beads if they touch the tip. The spear can be grabbed using the Yarn Whip and wrapped up into an arrow-shaped yarn ball which can penetrate through enemies when thrown. In Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, Spear Waddle Dees can be found both in the main game and in Stage 2 of the Sub-Game Slash & Bead.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
While not appearing as an enemy proper in this title, Waddle Dees carrying spears can be seen in the opening cutscene, attempting to guard King Dedede from Taranza's magic.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
Spear Waddle Dees make an appearance in Kirby 3D Rumble. They stand in place, and attempt to toss their spears at Kirby, creating Drop Stars where the spears land. They are further distinguished from standard Waddle Dees by their yellow fur.
Spear Waddle Dees, along with Sectra Dee variants, can also be seen in the standalone version of this sub-game, Kirby's Blowout Blast, although with orange skin this time.
Kirby Battle Royale[edit]
A special variant of Spear Waddle Dee exists in this title, called Soldier Waddle Dee. While they are not playable, they can be faced in Dedede's Cake Royale, and fight similarly to Spear Kirby.
In Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]
- Main article: Waddle Dee (anime character)

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, there are similar Waddle Dees that carry spears and act on King Dedede's behalf as his soldiers or castle guards. These spear-wielding Waddle Dees can be sometimes seen rallying in very large numbers, with their most prominent appearances being in episodes like Waddle While You Work and Hunger Struck. However, as with most Waddle Dees in general, they are not exactly skilled fighters. Eventually, they would go on to influence the appearance of Spear Waddle Dees in the games, with their most analogous game appearance as guards of Castle Dedede being in Kirby Super Star Ultra's Revenge of the King.

Notable Spear-wielding Waddle Dees[edit]
While this article mainly serves to cover standard Waddle Dees carrying spears, there are a number of other more notable Waddle Dees who are known for their spear wielding. These are as follows:
- Bandana Waddle Dee - Perhaps the most well-known individual Waddle Dee in the series uses a spear as his primary weapon. He can perform all of the same moves as Spear Kirby and also possesses an Infinity Jump.
- Soldier Waddle Dee - These special NPCs appear in Kirby Battle Royale as enemy combatants in Dedede's Cake Royale. Several of them have a fair amount of dialogue in the story proper.
- Colossal Spear Waddle Dee - This large Spear Waddle Dee appears as a reoccurring boss in Super Kirby Clash.
