Onion Ocean - Stage 3 (simply called Stage 3 or 3-3 in-game) is the third stage of Onion Ocean in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake—Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. There are four Energy Spheres in this stage. Moundo appears for the first time in this stage.

Kirby has to keep in mind what the path down on the right looks like as he ascends the watery chutes.

The stage begins with Kirby falling into a cave lined with waterfalls and pools. Kirby will need to head down each waterfall in turn in order to proceed, passing along various obstacles along the way. A Hammer Copy Essence can be found here if Kirby looks carefully.

The next area has Kirby swimming through a deep underwater chasm with a current pushing him forward. Along the way, spike-lined platforms move back and forth, creating a hazardous environment. A side-door can be found near one of them which leads to a room with a 1-Up in it.

Kirby is then swept up a vertical channel, with two other interwoven ones to the right that he will traverse on the way down. Hitting the switches at the top will allow Kirby to head back down, though one of them leads to a better cache of items. A hint can be gleamed on the way up which will show which switch to hit.

From here, Kirby finds himself in a dry cave area under the ocean. He will have to duel Moundo who yields the Stone ability upon defeat. From there, he can proceed back into the water.

The next area is a repeat of the intertwined channels from before, though made more complicated with a third channel added. This addition should also make it easier to see which path is optimal to take.

From there, Kirby finds himself in a series of wind-swept tunnels which switch back and forth. Passing through this area unharmed is easier said than done.

In the last area, Kirby can come across the Monster Flame Super Ability. Using this, he can destroy all of the Merman Statues in his way by hitting the barrels in their mouths. At the end of this stretch, Kirby will find a Giant Flotzo inside a shipwreck which occasionally pops out. Kirby will need to hit it when it pops out to make a rift appear.

Another Dimension rift[edit]

Inside the rift, Kirby will need to progress to the right past a long series of floating water formations with Gordos and Barracu patrolling within. At the end of this dangerous stretch, Kirby will then need to fight a fiery Sphere Doomer to claim the prize.

Once out of the rift, Kirby can find the stage exit underneath the shipwreck.

Energy Sphere guide[edit]

  • After defeating Moundo, Kirby can use the Stone ability to sink into a pool with a strong upward current to obtain the first sphere at the bottom.
  • In the second intertwined channel area, Kirby will need to hit the right switch at the top to reach the cache with the second sphere in it. The correct switch is the one on the right.
  • The last two spheres can be obtained by defeating the Sphere Doomer at the end of the rift section.
