The Sound Test is unlocked in Kirby's Return to Dream Land's Main Menu once the Main Mode is cleared, allowing one to listen to 115 music tracks and 1,427 sound effects. Music tracks 97-115 are locked until Extra Mode, The Arena, and The True Arena are cleared. This game is also the last to include a section dedicated to sound effects; later entries are dedicated solely to music. In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the Sound Test is now known as the Jukebox. It no longer includes sound effects, but it now includes an auto-play function, colored music notes indicating the composer, and track titles. Interestingly, its unlock quote still references being able to listen to sounds, though this may be in reference to the sound effects tracks that are technically counted as music.

At first, the jukebox is pink, but when all songs are unlocked (denoted by the menu option being marked with a star), it turns rainbow-colored, and the title changes to Complete Jukebox. Music unlocks under the following conditions:

  • Track 16 unlocks upon entering the HAL Room in Cookie Country - Stage 4.
  • Track 52 unlocks upon entering the secret path of Nutty Noon - Stage 5 in Story Mode.
