Festival is a single-use Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby Star Allies. The Festival ability gives Kirby a captain's hat with a frock of colorful feathers attached to the back. When used, time freezes and Kirby and any Friends present will dance, dealing massive damage to all enemies on screen and turning them into Point Stars once the dance concludes. Festival's power increases if more friends are present to dance. Once the dance is performed, Kirby will lose this ability.
Game appearances
Kirby Star Allies
Festival made its debut as an ability in Kirby Star Allies. It can be obtained from a Mix or by swallowing Don Puffle, who first appears in Donut Dome. Festival can also be obtained by swallowing the golden cherries dropped by Yggy Woods. When used with multiple players, it automatically turns into the Festival Dance Friend Ability.
The Festival attack's damage is:
- Dance Solo (1 player): 180
- Festival Dance (2 players): 200
- Festival Dance (3 players): 210
- Festival Dance (4 players): 220
(For reference, a Star Bullet does 52 damage.)
Super Kirby Clash
Though not appearing as an ability in Super Kirby Clash, Festival Kirby is seen as a sticker, which can be purchased at Magolor's Shoppe for 20 Gem Apples.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Festival returns in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, where it appears to work the same way as before (though without the formal Friend Ability designation). Notably, Magolor appears during the dance in at least some instances as well, despite presumably not being playable in this game.
Trivia
- The Festival ability was designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Kirby series, further proven by the ability using the graphics of the 25th anniversary logo ring at the end of the dance.[1] This also applies to its appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which was released during the 30th anniversary of the series.
- Festival is the first limited-use Copy Ability to be introduced since Magic in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror — a 14 year gap.
- The way Festival works is similar to how Meta Knight's 'Meta Knightmares' attack is performed in Meta Knightmare Returns, Kirby: Planet Robobot.
- In The Ultimate Choice, Point Stars are still created when using Festival on common enemies, even though there is no counter for them. The player has to go out of their way to try this, obtaining the ability during the Yggy Woods fight and then keeping it until a mid-boss ambush.
