"Bring On the Super Ability" is the musical piece that plays whenever Kirby gains a Super Ability in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The theme was composed by Hirokazu Ando.
Composition
"Bring On the Super Ability" is a theme in 3/4 time and is in the key of C minor. Its melody features a repeated motif of three ascending notes played twice, followed by a descending triad (for example, the repeated ascending notes C-D-Eb-C-D-Eb, then G, then a descending triad of F-D-Bb). It appears to have orchestrated instrumentation. This theme seems to appear as a popular motif in this game, an example of this being the latter half of "Sky Tower". The theme also appears to use snippets of the Green Greens theme at around 0:25 and 0:36.
Game appearances
Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
When Kirby gains a Super Ability, the music changes to this piece until he loses the ability, regardless of the cause.
An alternate version plays in the Ultra Sword segment of Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3, as well as in the Super Ability portion of the Grand Doomer fight. It is named "Ultra-Super Boss Battle". This version is higher pitched (performed in E minor as opposed to C minor) and sounds more intense than the original, containing additional instruments, such as rock guitars.
The theme is incorporated in the beginning of the track for the "Final Battle" cutscene, albeit with modifications near the end.
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the theme is arranged, with traces of Welcome Your New Overlord, as the song that plays in Magolor Epilogue when Magolor atones for his misdeeds by striking down the Master Crown with his own version of the Ultra Sword. It is named "Settling a Score - Atone for One's Misdeeds!", and was arranged by Yuki Shimooka.
Finally, also exclusively in the remake, the "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" remix from Kirby's Dream Buffet is part of the "Secret Area: HAL Room (Kirby's Dream Buffet 2)" medley that plays in the HAL Room of Magolor Epilogue.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition
The "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" remix has a chance to play in Magolor Race 3 and Magolor Race EX of the New Challenge Stages mode. In addition, when selecting Kirby's Return to Dream Land in Kirby's History, the original version of the theme plays.
Kirby Star Allies
The original version of the theme is reused in Extra Planet δ.
Super Kirby Clash
A percussion-heavy remix of the "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" theme plays in the Super-rank Party Quests against Flame Galboros, Venom Kracko, Electric Dragon, Miasmoros and Pyribbit EX.
Kirby's Dream Buffet
A remix of the theme, based on its "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" arrangement, can play as a theme for Battle Royales and is available at the start. This version of the theme utilizes various percussion instruments (like the triangle and xylophone). It was arranged by Yuki Shimooka.
Other appearances
Both "Bring On the Super Ability" and "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" were included in the Kirby Wii Music Selection. In addition, the bonus track ボーナストラック:空の夢と、虹の泉で (Bonus Track: Dreaming of Skies at the Fountain of Rainbows) includes a lower-pitched arrangement of the theme.
"Bring On the Super Ability" was also included in the Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Compilation Soundtrack.
