“ | Don't forget me! I can make some copied abilities better! | ” | — Pitch in the Kirby's Dream Land 3 Instruction Booklet |
Pitch is one of Kirby's Animal Friends, debuting alongside Nago and ChuChu in Kirby's Dream Land 3, his only major appearance to date. He is a small, mostly green bird-like creature with a white belly, a yellow beak and thin, black legs. On top of his head, two of his feathers stick out, resembling strands of hair. He most closely resembles a warbling white-eye.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Pitch can be found in several stages throughout the game, the first of which being the second stage of Grass Land, where he appears alongside ChuChu in the second section. He also appears in the Cloudy Park level intro, in which he is grabbed and rolled around by Nago, and the Iceberg intro, where he briefly sits on the unfinished snowman that Nago, ChuChu and Kirby are building, causing one of its snowballs to roll off and fall on Gooey.
When Kirby is traveling with Pitch, he carries the bird, who is no bigger than himself, around while walking at normal speed, but rides on his back if a dash is performed. Being the smallest Animal Friend in the game, Pitch is the only companion that can be taken through gaps of only a single block's height.
When the B button is pressed while the two are in the air, Kirby holds on to Pitch's feet, enabling the avian to carry him while flying. Each time the button is consecutively pressed, Pitch flaps his wings, increasing his altitude slightly. Unlike Coo, Pitch can neither speed up his flight nor fly against wind currents, and while Kirby may inhale while dangling from the bird's legs, doing so causes him to fall to the ground. Just like the owl, however, Pitch enables Kirby to fly with an enemy in his mouth.
As with other Animal Friends, teaming up with Pitch transforms Kirby's current Copy Ability into a new one, which combines the attributes of both the ability and the friend.
Pitch's mother appears in Ripple Field Stage 5, and bringing Pitch to his mother is required to obtain the Heart Star of that stage.
Combinations[edit]
Base Ability | Appearance | Description |
---|---|---|
Burning | Pitch slowly flies away in the form of a fireball, clearing his path of enemies before returning to Kirby. He can be avoided when he tries to reunite with Kirby, causing him to repeatedly fly past the hero. Kirby cannot enter doors until Pitch returns, however. | |
Clean | Pitch briefly transforms into a bucket, letting Kirby throw large blobs of water at enemies. Holding "up" while doing so causes him to throw them at a higher angle. | |
Cutter | Pitch is thrown like a boomerang, harming enemies he touches and returning to Kirby. Moving just right can cause Pitch to circle around Kirby indefinitely. Kirby cannot enter doors until he catches the bird again. | |
Ice | Pitch turns into a snowmaking machine, which Kirby uses to freeze enemies in front of him for as long as the Y button is held. Kirby cannot move while using this ability. | |
Needle | While the Y button is held, Pitch flies forward in a straight line, continuously pecking at the air before him and defeating opponents in his path. | |
Parasol | Using a parasol like a golf club, Kirby knocks Pitch away, causing him to bounce around like a ball and destroy enemies he touches. Holding Y for longer will send Pitch at a higher angle. He returns to Kirby once he stops moving or the Y button is pressed; moving just right while he is doing so can cause him to orbit Kirby. | |
Spark | Kirby uses a remote control to make Pitch fly through the air freely, moving through walls and taking out adversaries. Pitch is controlled with the directional pad and returns to Kirby when the Y button is pressed. While controlling Pitch, Kirby cannot move. If he takes damage, Pitch returns to him automatically. | |
Stone | Kirby and Pitch leap into the air, the latter temporarily turning into a rock on the way down and squishing foes under him. |
Locations[edit]

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]
While Pitch himself does not appear in The Crystal Shards, Kirby may transform into a moving statue of him using the Stone-Cutter Power Combo. In this form, Kirby is invincible and can quickly fly for a limited time in a similar manner as Pitch in his original appearance, but is entirely incapable of movement while on the ground, with the exception of rolling when he lands.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
In Kirby: Planet Robobot, Pitch appears as a collectible sticker, depicting his main artwork from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
Pitch appears as part of the Cleaning ability's moveset, and enables Kirby to perform the water bucket attack from Kirby's Dream Land 3. His bucket form is redesigned, now including his beak, wings, legs, and belly. This move can also be charged for greater distance, and can provide the Splash element.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Pitch appears on a Character Treat, using his artwork from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, a Dress-Up Mask based on Pitch can be unlocked by completing card #22 in the Stamp Rally.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
Pitch appears as a ★ support spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, using his main artwork from Kirby's Dream Land 3. He is a support spirit that makes the player start the match with an Unira. In the spirit battle, the player is pitted against Jigglypuff (representing Kirby), holding a Poké Ball that always summons a Fletchling, which represents Pitch.
Trivia[edit]
- If Kirby picks a different Animal Friend while Pitch is on the screen in Kirby's Dream Land 3, the bird will briefly look surprised, then start angrily yelling at Kirby.
