- This article is about the bat-like enemy in early Kirby games. For the Wing-providing enemy from Kirby Air Ride, see Flappy.
Flapper is a flying bat-like enemy found in very early Kirby games. It flutters back and forth, mainly in dark rooms, and can be hard to detect. It may also occasionally pursue Kirby.
Flapper resembles a bat, though with particularly large wings compared to body size. It is entirely black, with few features visible aside from the massive wings. This dark coloration makes it tricky to spot in the gloomy areas it often resides in. Flapper can be seen flying at modest speed in straight lines, but it may instead pursue Kirby slowly.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land[edit]
Flapper makes its first appearance in this title, appearing mainly in Castle Lololo. It is not a particularly common enemy, and is worth 400 points when defeated.
Unlike some other enemies, Flapper is not replaced by another enemy in the Extra Game.
Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]
In Kirby's Pinball Land, Kracko occasionally conjures a Flapper to trip up Kirby with, as opposed to the Waddle Doos he normally conjures. These are worth 2400 points when hit.
Kirby's Dream Course[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Course, Flapper does not appear as a regular enemy. Instead, it appears in the two-player game during the night-time to return Kirby or Keeby to the course if they overshoot and go OB, returning them to the place they were before making the foolish shot. This role is similar to the one that Angie performs in Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn.
During day-time (triggered by the Day Switch), Bronto Burt performs this role instead.
In Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]
A swarm of Flappers makes a cameo appearance in the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, appearing in the episode Escargoon Squad. They fly in to King Dedede's bedroom on a stormy night and contribute to Dedede's sense of terror while he is being haunted by ghosts. It is unclear if these Flappers were part of Escargoon's scheme or if they were merely a coincidental fright to the King.
