Body snatching's illegal!"
Hail to the Chief
E10 Chief Bookem.png
Primary character Chief Bookem plays a leading role in this episode. While trying to direct traffic in Cappy Town (despite there being no traffic at the time) other Cappies remark on his strange work ethic. However, he shortly falls asleep on the job, and at that moment, a vehicle collision occurs between King Dedede and Mayor Len. When they confront Chief Bookem about it to ask him for his input, he is unable to answer them, and King Dedede decides that he is going to fire Chief Bookem for this slip-up. Upon receiving this news, Chief Bookem starts to despair at the thought, but his wife Buttercup assures him that she will not think less of him regardless of the decision.

In the meantime, Tuff and his friends have decided to take matters into their own hands to help convince the town that Chief Bookem is still needed, since Tuff was once told by Chief Bookem that he was a "Rough Ranger" in the military, and Tuff looks up to him for this (despite Tiff's insistence that there was never a war for him to be in). The mischief that Tuff and his friends cause results in Chief Bookem being called in by multiple villagers to investigate. However, this is all interrupted when King Dedede shows up to formally fire Chief Bookem, but the villagers rally behind their chief. Before a standoff can commence, however, Kirby interrupts things by planting a wasp nest on Escargoon's head, causing him to panic and drive away, inadvertently abducting Tuff in the process.

Chief Bookem, Tiff, and others pursue up to the rim of the Booma-Dooma Volcano, finding Kirby along the way. Tuff is thrown out of King Dedede's vehicle and lands inside the caldera, unable to get out. Chief Bookem volunteers to go in and rescue him while strapped to a rope, despite Tiff's objections. With some difficulty and a few close calls, Chief Bookem manages to reach Tuff, and while climbing back out with him, is forced to admit that he was never a Rough Ranger. Shortly thereafter, the rope fails and the two go falling toward the open magma chamber, but are saved by Kirby on the Warp Star. After this rescue and Chief Bookem's proving of his bravery, King Dedede is once again rebuffed by the town when he tries one more time to fire the Chief.

"The Rough Rangers Squad is the toughest fighting force on the planet! My buddies and me got stuck in some real jams on the battlefield, but we never gave up! It's like us Rangers always say, Tuff: "Always try!""
Cappy New Year
E13 Chief Bookem.png
Primary character In this episode, Chief Bookem is one of the Cappies leading the town in their preparation of the New Year's festivities. When the idea is brought forward to make fireworks, Chief Bookem tells everyone that he has plenty of gunpowder for them to use at the police headquarters. The Cappy men get to work, trying to be as careful as they can be, but Kirby innocently runs into the building with a lit sparkler, causing the gunpowder to ignite all at once and blow the building to smithereens. Though nobody was seriously hurt, the gunpowder is now all gone, so Chief Bookem and the others fall onto a backup plan to make floats instead. Chief Bookem's float depicts Doron wrapped up and attached to a ball and chain. "I call this "Prisoner on Parade"! It's a light-hearted way of saying crime doesn't pay!"
The Pillow Case
E14 Chief Bookem.png
Tertiary character In this episode, Chief Bookem is among those who receives one of King Dedede's dream pillows, and is subsequently subjected to nightmares about Kirby and then possessed to get rid of him with the others. At the very end of the episode, Chief Bookem and Doron can be seen dining together at Kawasaki's with the others to celebrate Sir Ebrum and Lady Like's anniversary. "And then you lost the ring when Kirby crashed into ya! Is that your story?"

However, Knuckle Joe soon tires of this and punches Chief Bookem through a wall. Later on, Chief Bookem and several other Cappies can be seen hiding in the jail cell, since they can do little to stop Knuckle Joe's rampage. "Hmm...so you allege that the citizens of Cappy Town are conspiring against you. Hmm...and why exactly do you want to meet with Kirby?"

Later on, Chief Bookem is among those dressed as ninjas, and helps Kirby, Tiff and Tuff capture Benikage after he again attempts to recover the scroll, this time from Castle Dedede after King Dedede had stolen it. "Hey! No eating the evidence!"

Over time, however, the restaurant gets so popular that the wait time becomes too long, so Chief Bookem decides to eat at Kawasaki's instead, which had been receiving no business for a while due to Goan's restaurant. Bookem asks for something spicy, which Kawasaki remarks is unusual for him, but Bookem explains that the food at Goan's opened his palate a bit. Chef Kawasaki enlists Kirby to help him prepare the meal, but Kirby accidentally adds way too many red peppers into the stew. When Chief Bookem tastes it, he starts belching fire and runs screaming out of the restaurant. Chef Kawasaki fears the worst, but it is later revealed at Doctor Yabui's that Chief Bookem thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite roasting his mouth and his mustache. This initiates the spiciness war between the two restaurants that ensues for the remainder of the episode. "You're right, but that's before I tasted the food at Monsieur Goan's. Holy jalapeño! His food has flavor; not like the junk you.--d'oh!" *stammers* "What I mean is...your food's more like home cooking! Course the food I get at home tastes worse than the stuff they serve in the army!" *forced laughter*
Hatch Me If You Can
E30 Chief Bookem.png
Secondary character In this episode, after Kirby finds an egg in the nest he was sleeping in, Tiff calls a few of the senior Cappies to investigate. Chief Bookem and the others show up, but they don't take the situation very seriously. Chief Bookem remarks that nobody's come in with reports of a stolen egg, so he'll just leave Kirby to it. Later on, after the egg hatches into a baby Galbo, Chief Bookem and Buttercup can be seen dining at Kawasaki's. They are about to have a meal there when the Galbo bursts in and eats everything on the table before running off. After the Galbo has caused further mischief, Chief Bookem and the others gather into a mob and start to antagonize the baby Galbo, making it cry. This angers Kirby, who steps in between them and then escorts the baby Galbo away. "Hmm. No missing egg reports coming yet. Nobody broke into any nests, lately. I guess Kirby can go back to sittin' on the egg."

I'm in for life; I can't make bail! I'm all alone; here in my cell! I'm without you; I feel like-" *gets interrupted* Chief Bookem was likely going to end his last verse with the word "hell".
A Dental Dilemma
E32 Chief Bookem.png
Tertiary character In this episode, Chief Bookem is forced to have his teeth drilled by Doctor Yabui as a few other onlookers watch in a mixture of concern, horror, or morbid curiosity. His pain is used by King Dedede to torment Escargoon, who is up next for the chair. *panicked screaming*
Junk Jam
E33 Chief Bookem.png
Secondary character In this episode, Chief Bookem is involved with the initial dilemma of what to do with the giant trash pile that showed up in Cappy Town one day. When the townsfolk demand something be done about it, Bookem and Mayor Len argue over whose responsibility it is, forcing the two to trade the pile back and forth in their respective yards. Eventually, they both decide to try and make King Dedede responsible for the garbage. However, this ultimately comes to naught when even more garbage arrives and covers the whole countryside. Chief Bookem and the others can be seen trying to decide what can be done about it, with Bookem suggesting they just try to cover it over with dirt and pretend it's not there. Later on, when the aliens who dumped the trash show up, Bookem is among the crows who witness them. "I say we cover up these trash piles with dirt and just pretend we live in the mountains!"

Later on, after Tiff's newspaper makes the rounds to exonerate Kirby, King Dedede reacts by trying to print a newspaper of his own, but when Chief Bookem gets his hands on one, he remarks how loaded with ads it is. He and several others go to Castle Dedede with Kirby to "return" all the newspapers that King Dedede sent out, and he can be seen with Kirby and the others at the end of the episode. A short time later, everyone in town starts gathering photos they have with Escargoon in them and pool together in the police headquarters to try and figure out what is going on. Scare Tactics - Part I
E45 Chief Bookem.png

Shortly in, however, he sees one that he doesn't remember being part of the event, and runs out of the woods believing it to be a real ghost (in reality, it was Escargoon in a sheet). After running out of the woods, he tries to tell the gathered Cappies that he saw a real ghost in there. They are hesitant to believe him at first, but after Chef Kawasaki runs out of the woods as well, they start to get unnerved.
