Artwork of Kirby riding a 3D Warp Star.

3D Warp Star or 3D Warpstar is a variant of Warp Star that first appeared in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It is visually defined by its fragmentary nature, consisting of a small central star surrounded by a wider but thinner star-shaped brace. Unlike normal Warp Stars, 3D Warp Stars quickly take Kirby to a nearby area on a different plane to where he was previously, allowing the pink puffball to traverse the third dimension to a limited capacity. 3D Warp Stars are not used to travel to new rooms or other areas, like a Warp Star would be.

To activate a 3D Warp Star, Kirby (or whoever else is being controlled by the player) must touch it. When this is done, Kirby will automatically grab on to the star, and after a brief pause, will be taken to a new predetermined area in a different plane of the stage. Kirby cannot disembark from the 3D Warp Star until the trip is complete, whereupon the star vanishes. What happens after that point depends on which of the two types of 3D Warp Star was ridden. The first type has a yellow center and will not reappear after being used. The second type - with an orange center - will spawn a new orange-centered 3D Warp Star nearby the point where Kirby lands, allowing him to travel back from whence he came. Kirby can ride a 3D Warp Star while carrying any holdable item, such as a Key or Timed Dynamite.

3D Warp Stars first appear in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, and transport their rider between the foreground and background. 3D Warp Stars also appear in Kirby: Planet Robobot, where they serve the same purpose.

Kirby Star Allies

In Kirby Star Allies, 3D Warp Stars appear as transport in Jambastion's level hub. They do not appear in regular stages.

Profiles

  • Kirby: Triple Deluxe electronic manual: "Jump on this to travel between the foreground and background. Orange stars can be used to travel back and forth, but yellow ones are one-way only, so be careful!"
  • Kirby: Planet Robobot NA electronic manual: "Ride these to travel between the foreground and background of the stage."
  • Kirby: Planet Robobot UK electronic manual: "Ride this to travel between the foreground and background of the stage"

Trivia

  • 3D Warp Stars are differentiated in the same way as Doors: those with yellow stars are one-way, and those with orange stars are round-trip.
