The main theme associated with The Three Mage-Sisters; this version plays when fighting Francisca and Flamberge. | |
The Three Mage-Sisters are a trio of antagonists who serve Hyness in Kirby Star Allies. The members of the three mages include:
- Francisca - Frozen General;
- Flamberge - Blazing General;
- Zan Partizanne - Lightning General, and the leader of the trio.
The mages resemble stylized humanoids with disembodied hands and no visible feet. Each is dressed in a stylized depiction of a nun's habit, decorated with hearts; atop their heads, each wears a large cap similar to a military black beret bearing their signature symbol. The area where their necks and mouths would be are covered by a kind of neck gaiter. The character designs and names of the three mages are directly based on their weapons: a francisca (a throwing axe), a flamberge (a sword with an undulating blade), and a partisan (a type of polearm similar to a spear).

Kirby Star Allies[edit]
Story Mode[edit]
- Main article: Kirby Star Allies#Story
In the opening of Kirby Star Allies Story Mode, a mysterious hooded man, Hyness, failed to revive the Dark Lord in The Divine Terminus, located in their headquarters Jambandra. As a result, he ordered his three mages to recover the pieces of the Jamba Heart splattered all over the universe. The mages arrive in Planet Popstar along with their mobile fortress Jambastion, where Kirby and his Friends would fight them for the first time:
Upon Zan Partizanne's first defeat, she destroys the Jambastion fortress to try and bury the Star Allies in the rubble, but Kirby and his friends manage to escape. The mages then go to other stars in the universe to recover the remaining dark hearts.
The three mages would be fought again across the universe in Far-Flung Starlight Heroes:
- Francisca - Blizzno Moon;
- Flamberge - Sizzlai Moon;
- Zan Partizanne - The Divine Terminus.
Upon Zan Partizanne's second defeat, the hooded Hyness appears and fights Kirby and his friends. When Hyness is seemingly defeated, however, he becomes unhooded and reveals his true face, summons the three mages, and turns them into rag dolls to use as weapons and shields, continuing the boss battle.
Upon the final defeat of unhooded Hyness, he realizes they still don't have enough dark hearts to revive Void Termina, so he forces the mages to join himself and become the last sacrifices to their dark lord. It works, forcing Kirby and his friends to defeat the revived Void Termina in the final battle.
When Kirby and his friends enter the body of Void Termina after defeating his first phase, the Demon God Form, Hyness and the three mages are found trapped inside his core. Kirby and his friends defeat his first core and save the four from his body. Upon Void Termina's defeat, the whereabouts of Hyness and the three mages are unknown, but they are confirmed to survive.

The Three Mage-Sisters, titled Repentant Retaliators, are the final boss of Heroes in Another Dimension, right after Corrupt Hyness is defeated. This battle is an encounter with Francisca, Flamberge, and Zan Partizanne together at once. When paired up in this battle, they all wear special gold variations of their normal outfits and have black faces with red eyes, similar to when they are being controlled by Hyness. This fight also appears in the Soul Melter EX difficulty of The Ultimate Choice as the third to last battle.
Attacks[edit]
Each of The Three Mage-Sisters retain all of their attacks from their respective individual boss fights, and use them in more-or-less the same manner. During the battle, the sisters will move into play and perform their attacks in a tag-team manner, as one or two will hold back in the background while the other(s) perform their attacks. During certain instances, however, all three of them will be on stage together. This particularly happens in the opening of the fight's second phase, when all three of them converge to perform their largest attacks one-after-the-other.
During the battle, all three Mage-Sisters share a common health bar, and are defeated simultaneously. They have 3,400 HP in Heroes in Another Dimension, which is tied with Chaos Elfilis for the highest health of any single non-shoot 'em up boss battle in the main series, (a Star Bullet in Kirby Star Allies during their battle does 78 damage, while the same attack in Kirby and the Forgotten Land does 80 damage). Internally, their health is calculated by taking Zan Partizanne's base HP of 680 and multiplying it by 5.

Dream Friend[edit]

The Three Mage-Sisters also appear as a playable Dream Friend, unlocked by getting the Happy Ending in Heroes in Another Dimension.
When playing as the Three Mage-Sisters, the player can switch between the three characters at will, differing from Rick & Kine & Coo. The three mages share the same health bar, but each mage has her own moveset based on their attacks as bosses. The active mage on the field is indicated by the Blizzard/Sizzle/Zap icon beside their health bar.
- Francisca attacks with her icy axe, ice-based magic and soda gun.
- Flamberge attacks with her fiery sword and flamethrower. She cannot hover.
- Zan Partizanne attacks with her electric spear, thunderclouds and lightning drums and has much quicker movement speed than the other sisters.
The Three Mage-Sisters can use an attack called Sister Circle, in which they form a Friend Circle and attack the full screen, similar to Copy Abilities like Crash and Festival. While very powerful, this attack does have a cooldown before it can be used again, similar to Chef Kawasaki's cooldown for Cook Pot / Souper Supper.
Like recruitable mid-bosses, the playable Three Mage-Sisters are slightly smaller than their boss appearances.

The sisters share in common a move called 'Sister Tag', which is executed by holding ↓ and then pressing and releasing B. This swaps out each sister as follows:
- Francisca → Flamberge → Zan Partizanne → Francisca (repeat)
Zan Partizanne has the fastest dashing speed of all playable characters in the game. Her Lightning Dodge is also the fastest movement of all playable characters when used consecutively.
According to Kirby Star Allies: The Original Art Book, the three Mage-Sisters were originally supposed to be individual characters, but the lead programmer wanted them all to be one character, and managed to make them a tag team.[1]
Super Kirby Clash[edit]
The Three Mage-Sisters each have respective unlockable stickers that can be bought from Magolor's Shoppe. In addition, once Kirby has completed enough quests, Francisca and Flamberge can be found on a bench in Port Village, appearing to be talking. Much later on in the game, Zan Partizanne can be found in Castle Village, sitting on another bench by herself.
Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

The Three Mage-Sisters appear as stage hazards on the Jambastion Entrance Battle Stage. One of them will float into a corner of the stage and start attacking the players with their respective weapons, using movesets from their boss fights in Kirby Star Allies.
- Francisca floats to the lower corners, then uses "Cisca Slash" and "Cisca Dash" or she can use "Frozen Gelato".
- Flamberge can either float to the upper corners and use "Berge Rush'" and "Berge Finish", or float to the lower corners and use the "Mega Broiler."
- Zan Partizanne can either float to the center of the stage and use "Lightning Lemonade", or float to the sides of the stage and use "Electro Eclair".
Additionally, Rare Hats based on the Three Mage-Sisters can be unlocked for Beam ("Francisca Style"), Sword ("Flamberge Style"), and Staff ("Zan Partizanne Style"), if the player has save data for Kirby Star Allies on the same system.
Out of all the Three Mage Sisters, Francisca is the only one who does not use her secondary weapon: her Shaken Soda Blaster.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Buffet, the Three Mage-Sisters all appear on their own as separate Character Treats, with each one using their artwork from Kirby Star Allies. They are also referenced through costumes and colors that Kirby can use.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, there are Dress-Up Masks for every member of the Three Mage-Sisters, which replace the wearer's voice with the corresponding character. Each one can be unlocked by completing Stamp Rally cards #13 (Francisca), #15 (Flamberge), and #17 (Zan Partizanne). By completing 90 missions in Merry Magoland, a statue featuring the Three Mage-Sisters will appear in the park, in addition to unlocking masks based on their appearance in their boss battle in Heroes in Another Dimension.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
The Three Mage-Sisters appear as a Support Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, using their Story Mode villain illustration. Their spirit is ranked ★★ Advanced, and their skill is Battering Items ↑ with the cost of 1 slot. This skill possibly refers to either their own battering weapons, or them being used as battering weapons by Hyness during the second phase of his boss battle.
In Adventure Mode: World of Light and Spirit Board, the Three Mage-Sisters' spirit possesses three female Robins and increases the power of their Special moves (which are all magic-based) during their Spirit Battle. However, Pink Robin resembles Francisca instead of blue, due to the blue color palette being given to Male Robin.
Trivia[edit]
- Despite the word "sisters" in their group name, they are implied to be unrelated by blood; the word "sisters" also refers to the concept of a religious sisterhood. While this mystery is not given a definitive answer, with the Kirby Star Allies Channel playing it up, their pause screen descriptions in the Soul Melter EX difficulty of The Ultimate Choice describe how they were separate individuals who were each rescued from certain death by an anonymous figure (later confirmed in an interview to be Hyness[2]) and imbued with the powers of the elements which would have killed them.
- With the release of Kirby Star Allies, the three mages would become the news presenters on Kirby's official JP Twitter, similar to Susie for Kirby: Planet Robobot and the spin-offs therein.
- Later, when introduced as a Dream Friend on the official Twitter account, the Three Mage-Sisters are given the following nicknames by Magolor: 信号機三人娘 ("traffic light trio girls", referencing Japan's traffic light system), and パルメザンチーズ ("parmesan cheese", directed at Zan Partizanne). This is Magolor's payback to Zan Partizanne calling him イカサマたまご ("crafty egg") in a previous Twitter post.
- When the Three Mage-Sisters become available as a Dream Friend, they will have a chance of replacing the crew of Burning Leo, Waddle Dee and Waddle Doo in the Jukebox and the Theater of Kirby Star Allies.
- In the Japanese and Chinese versions of VS The Three Mage-Sisters, the mages are referred to as "becoming a powerful trident"[3], which is referenced in their battle theme's Japanese title, 三叉一閃の巫の熱情 (Passion of the Priestesses Glinting as a Trident).
- Each of the Mage-Sisters has a unique splash screen with their signature colors, which can be seen on their name tags and the borders surrounding the screen. However, the 4.0.0 update mistakenly changed the Mage-Sisters' unique border colors to the common palette used by most other bosses. This is because the unique colors were mistakenly assigned to new bosses added in 4.0.0 (specifically Morpho Knight EX, Void Termina's Soul Melter EX form, and Void), but these bosses have unique splash screens that disable the standard borders from appearing.[4]
