“ | Give us the best battle you can. I'll report the results! | ” | — Reporter Waddle Dee in Kirby Battle Royale |
The Waddle Dee Report Crew[Japanese title] is a quartet of Waddle Dees who act as reporters. They were first introduced on the real-life Kirby 25th Anniversary Twitter account (now simply known as Kirby JP Twitter), serving as a means to report on updates for the Kirby series games, merchandise and other news. They later appeared in the game Kirby Battle Royale, in which they interview various fighters, beginning with some of the Kirby clones, then moving on to the genuine article when it becomes clear who the front runner is.
Members[edit]
The Waddle Dee Report Crew consists of the following members:
- Reporter Waddle Dee - Wears a bow-tie and carries a microphone. Does most of the talking.
- Camera Waddle Dee - Wears a backwards green cap and carries the camera, with eyes that are almost always half-closed. Despite this, Camera Waddle Dee likely handles camera operator duties beyond simply physically carrying the camera.[1]
- Microphone Waddle Dee - Wears headphones and carries the boom mic. Given the small size of the crew, likely also handles sound engineering.[2]
- Assistant Waddle Dee - Wears a blue beanie and holds the cue cards.
In the Kirby novel series[edit]
The Waddle Dee Report Crew first appear in the tenth volume of the Kirby novel series, Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!, as clones of Waddle Dee made by the Kirby Printer. The Waddle Dee Report Crew cover Kirby's battle with King Dedede at the climax of the novel.
The Waddle Dee Report Crew appear again in Kirby Star Allies: The Universe is in Trouble?!, where they provide a summary of the events of the previous novel, Kirby Star Allies: The Great Friend Adventure!, before the first chapter.
Trivia[edit]
- In official artwork featuring the Waddle Dee Report Crew, they are often shown reporting for the fictional TV channel "Channel PPP". This is derived from the Japanese name of Dream Land ("Pupupu Land"), but may also be a reference to Channel DDD from Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.
