Chuckie is an enemy which was introduced in Kirby's Dream Land. It resembles a simple cartoon face with two large circular eyes which are looking in different directions, and a wide mouth with a big tongue sticking out at all times. Chuckie is known to hide in boxes which somewhat resemble ? Blocks from the Super Mario Bros. series, and can hurt Kirby on contact.
Its name comes from "upchuck", a slang verb meaning "to vomit", relating to its dizzying and erratic behavior, as well as its sickly face.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Land, Chuckie is found exclusively in the Castle Lololo stage. It pops out from boxes that resemble the ? Blocks from the Mario series, and bounces back and forth before going back in the box again. While it is out, Kirby can inhale or otherwise attack it.
In Extra Game, Chuckie is replaced by Hurly.
Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]
In Kirby's Pinball Land, Chuckie (known here as Chucky[1]) appears on the third level of the Kracko Land stage. It bounces back and forth while Mr. Bright is out and is worth 1000 points when hit, though it cannot be hit in the middle of its bounce. If hit three times, it transforms into a Maxim Tomato. It transforms into Hurly when Mr. Shine is out.
Kirby's Block Ball[edit]
Chuckie last appeared in Kirby's Block Ball, serving as a common enemy worth 300 points when defeated.

Chuckie appears as a monster in the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! episode D'Preciation Day. In this episode, it is sent along as a "gift" for Kirby from Night Mare Enterprises against King Dedede's instructions for a change and without his knowledge. Chuckie attacks by jumping out of its box and striking Kirby with its head and with the box. If Kirby attempts to inhale Chuckie, it can hide in the box to avoid being swallowed up. Kirby ends up defeating Chuckie easily after he gains the Parasol ability from an outside source.
Unlike in the games, Chuckie is specifically depicted as being attached to the box it emerges from in a jack-in-the-box-like fashion. It also assumes a more threatening face when it continues to attack Kirby, though this reverts to its normal appearance when it is hit.
Chuckie is defeated by Parasol Kirby.
Trivia[edit]
- In the in-game Extra Game ending and the Nintendo Power coverage for Kirby's Dream Land, the names of Chuckie and Hurly are swapped. This does not occur in other material.
- In the file select screen from Kirby Super Star, the illustration that depicts The Great Cave Offensive (after starting said game) features Kirby looking at a creature in a Treasure Chest that resembles Chuckie. However, this is likely not meant to be the same entity, as it bears a yellow coloration and is attached to a Treasure Chest (as opposed to a box with a question mark) with a blue spring like a jack-in-the-box.
