Blipper is a common and iconic aquatic enemy in the Kirby series. They usually reside in water and swim lazily in any given direction, though they have a habit of leaping out to hit Kirby as he passes by Some Blippers will also attempt to home in on Kirby when he is in or near the water, making them a surprisingly effective nuisance. When they are not in water, they flop around on the ground, and are more-or-less helpless. Blippers do not provide any Copy Ability when inhaled.
Blippers are simple to defeat. Kirby can use any attack to defeat a Blipper while on dry land. While underwater Kirby's attack is limited to spraying them with the Water Gun, unless he has an ability suited for use underwater, like Sword or Spear.
Physical appearance
Blipper's upper body is orange, and its lower body is yellow, and it sports three white fins on its side, and its back. It has small black eyes behind the goggles. It wears traditional scuba goggles, regardless of its fish-like anatomy.
A different species of another aquatic enemy, Mamanti, resembles a bigger Blipper.
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land
File:KDLBlipper.png Blipper makes its debut appearance in this title. Here is where its characteristic behaviTemplate:Or of tracking Kirby in the water and leaping out was established. In the Extra Game, Blipper becomes even more aggressive, and will frequently leap out of water and gain a good deal of height before falling back down again.
Blipper appears in the stages of Float Islands and Mt. Dedede. It is not replaced by any other enemy in the Extra Game.
Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
File:Adventure Blipper.png Blipper appears for the first time in colTemplate:Or here. Its behaviTemplate:Or is relatively unchanged, though its speed has been generally toned down in most cases. It can often be seen blocking off the entryways to pools of water, requiring Kirby to dispose of it in some way before taking the plunge.

In Kirby Squeak Squad, Blipper is comparatively rare compared to other games where it appears due to a relative lack of substantial watery areas outside of Secret Sea.

Kirby: Canvas Curse
Blipper returns in this title, and will pursue Kirby whenever he is submerged in water. They can be stunned with a tap from the DS Stylus or defeated using a Dash Attack.
Kirby's Epic Yarn/Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn
In this title, Blipper is generally more mild in temperament, and is unable to directly harm Kirby, instead only bumping him if they make contact. Blipper is transformed into a standard Yarn Ball when wrapped up.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
This game marks Blipper's debut appearance in 3-D, though it retains the same behaviTemplate:Or it had in Kirby Super Star (Ultra). Blippers can come in various sizes in the Extra Mode though this does not affect their stamina or other attributes.
Kirby's Dream Collection
Blipper appears in some of the stages in New Challenge Stages, though it is normally found flopping about, since there is scant any water for it to inhabit.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby: Planet Robobot, & Kirby: Star Allies
Blipper follows its look and behaviTemplate:Or from Kirby's Return to Dream Land in these games. It is also accompanied by its larger cousin known as Mamanti.
In the opening cut-scene of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, one of Kirby's day-time activities has him catching a Blipper from a small pond using a fishing rod.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
“ | Are you wondering why sea creatures like Blippers have to wear goggles underwater? The truth is, they've had them on for so long, they're scared to take them off. Or maybe they just forgot they ever had them on in the first place... | ” | — Figurine description from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse |
Blippers appear in this game, serving the same role they had in Kirby: Canvas Curse. They can be defeated by dashing into them or by Bandana Waddle Dee's spear.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Blipper appears as a sticker which can be used in The Subspace Emissary, to grant +20 to swimming time. It can be used with any fighter.
Trivia
- The only main-series game which Blipper does not appear in is Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Here, it is replaced by a similar enemy called Flopper.
- Blippers will only leap out of water in specific areas of stages under the appropriate circumstances. Otherwise, their default behaviTemplate:Or is to stay in the water. If for whatever reason they fall out of the bottom of water (which is possible in suspended water cubes), they will fall down through the air and be unable to move left or right until they land.
