The following article is considered anomalous, due to it coming from a distant future.
The original creation date of the article is on October 20, 2024, but unknown circumstances caused it to be published on April 1st, 2013 instead. Normally we would delete unverifiable information, but we can't really be sure here...
Ever since an incident involving the Mother Computer had dispersed Susie throughout the depths of another dimension, it turns out that she was not the only one in this situation. Indus Trious Haltmann has been struggling to escape from the interdimensional depths, and he may need to take out some anger for resources...
— VS Grandfather Haltmann Special Page from Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe

Grandfather Haltmann (full name Indus Trious Haltmann) is a new character that appears in Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe, the 2024 remake of Kirby: Planet Robobot. He is supposedly President Haltmann's long-lost grandfather and is implied to be the original creator of the Access Ark[1], the flagship of the Haltmann Works Company.

Grandfather Haltmann is voiced by Connor Marc Colquhoun, a Welsh YouTuber and voice actor also known as "CDawgVA".

Physical appearance

Grandfather Haltmann takes on a large, egg-shaped appearance in a similar fashion to his son. He sports a light blue color with a white mustache and eyes to compensate, as well as two separate tufts of white hair on either side of his head. Grandfather Haltmann features two disembodied hands adorned with golden gears. He also wears an indigo-colored suit which features a golden cogwheel with six teeth, and is covered up by a hefty, star-studded dark purple cloak, which features a swirling gradient of maroon and purple colors underneath.

Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe

This whole conundrum... is an absolute OUTRAGE at best, stranger! You clearly have no idea of what you're trying to do, especially when I also have my own way to escape this stupid dimension when I got warped here by that savage machine!
— Grandfather Haltmann in Susie Prologue: Remembrance Across Dimensions from Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe

Grandfather Haltmann debuts in Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe as the penultimate boss in the new Extra Mode "Susie Prologue: Remembrance Across Dimensions". He is essentially a stronger version of the boss battle against President Haltmann, featuring more dangerous and souped-up attacks than even his 2.0 counterpart in Meta Knightmare Returns. It is revealed that Grandfather Haltmann was trying to fight against Susie for resources to survive, as they both struggled to escape Another Dimension after an incident involving Star Dream whisked them away prior to the events of the main story.

Prior to starting the boss battle, Grandfather Haltmann has gathered several scraps of metal over the course of his stay in Another Dimension. He would eventually reconstruct them to resemble the Executive Suit, known as the Salvaged Suit, and use it to battle against Susie.

Boss battle

As Haltmann Works Company saw, Grandfather Haltmann was a great man, a special man. A great one with special innovations, he developed the blueprints for a ball-shaped mech and a planet-sized mothership. He mysteriously disappeared off the deep end during an experiment gone wrong with the Mother Computer...

The following lists all of Grandfather Haltmann's attacks in Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe. Most of Haltmann's attack names listed are conjectural, with some of them deriving from similar attacks used by President Haltmann, which mostly are related to office and business terminologies.

Phase 1
Grandfather Haltmann performing Interdimensional Office Orbit.
Attacks - Phase 1
Attack Description
Mr. President A variation of Ms. Officer and Susie's Drillbit missiles which uses explosive scrap metal replicas of President Haltmann's likeness to attack Susie. Their trajectory patterns take on more complex paths and may even use dimensional rifts for teleportation.
Interdimensional Office Orbit Grandfather Haltmann attaches to the central platform, and spins repeatedly around it, causing flying debris to be scattered across the stage. Eight drones are deployed before the attack starts and will spin in sync.
Drone Dance of Eight Grandfather Haltmann deploys eight drones, then hops down to the ground level, while the drones do the same. Then all nine entities hop around the stage in synchronicity. Eventually, they spin across the stage, with Grandfather Haltmann's mech leaving behind a conflagration that explodes once the attack concludes.
  • This is similar to Susie's Driver Slam.
Crazy Rolling in Money Grandfather Haltmann fires several coins into the screen, which crack and destroy parts of it, then follows up with a different attack listed above.
Phase 2
Grandfather Haltmann stomps around.

When Grandfather Haltmann has lost one-fifth of his Health, a flock of Rampaging Doomers circle around the arena, and bombard it to cause Susie and Grandfather Haltmann to fall onto a straightforward portion of the surviving remains.

Attacks - Phase 2
Attack Description
Assign the Doomer OJT Grandfather Haltmann rises into the air, leaving room for several dimensional rifts to appear, pulling in the Rampaging Doomers from a different dimension. These Rampaging Doomers attack similarly to their appearance in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, but have a significantly less amount of health.
Grandfather Rotate Grandfather Haltmann charges up and does a spin dash across the stage, several times, and in several different patterns. He occasionally leaves a star in his wake, and may jump around (often with visual cues) to mess with the player. If the drill on the lower portion of his suit is glowing orange, he may leave a conflagration that explodes after he passes through the stage.
  • This is similar to Susie's Spin Cycle Dash, which is named "Heavy Rotate Dance" in Japanese.
  • He may also use a more massive spin attack where he slowly ascends and then crashes down causing shockwaves on each side. He may do this several times, before eventually drilling into the ground to fire up a great load of debris.
Grandfather Missile Grandfather Haltmann jumps into the air, hovers for a moment, then fires six glowing drills from the bottom of his mech into the ground, leaving a large orange conflagration where they hit. This attack repeats four more times. Each shot can be swallowed for the Drill ability.
A variation of this attack may involve him launching a large glowing drill, which first flies into the background, then zooms into the foreground to slam Susie into the screen, dealing massive damage if hit.
Driver Slam Grandfather Haltmann leaps twice and then jumps high into the air, spins his mech's arms around, and then comes crashing down, leaving large shockwaves off to the side on impact. Unlike in President Haltmann 2.0, he does this attack six times, making it extremely dangerous.
Phase 3
Grandfather Haltmann fires his Revolution Laser Beams.

When Grandfather Haltmann is down to half health, a flock of Rampaging Doomers races through the ground, leaving a large gaping hole in the center. This forces Susie to fight him on a circular arena once again.

Attacks - Phase 3
Attack Description
Corporate Event A variation of Kickoff Party when more drones resembling President Haltmann's likeness are fired into the circular arena, some taking more elaborate patterns and some aiming into the ground much more directly than just being fired straight up. Rampaging Doomers may occasionally fly into the arena to make it harder for Susie to dodge the attacks.
Crazy Rolling in Money Grandfather Haltmann fires several coins into the screen, which crack and destroy parts of it, then follows up with a different attack listed above.
Ultra Agile Grandfather Haltmann does a spin dash around the arena. After completing one full loop, he jumps across the hole, leaving stars on impact and repeats the dash maneuver four more times. The attack also leaves a trail of conflagration in the ground, which explodes every time he jumps across the arena. When this attack ends, he drills into the ground a little more to scatter debris and Dropped Stars.
  • This is similar to Susie's Spin Cycle Dash.
Business Trip EX Grandfather Haltmann performs a series of 24 bounces across the arena, leaving two Dropped Stars where he lands. He does this attack at a significantly faster speed, which may require dash attacks or dodging to easily avoid.
Assign the Doomer OJT Two Rampaging Doomers fly into the arena, using their attack patterns from Magolor Epilogue. They have significantly less health, but Grandfather Haltmann also has higher damage resistance during this attack.
Revolution Laser Beam Grandfather Haltmann fires two lasers that sweep across the arena, and he may change the size of these beams. Occasionally, he may wave them up or down, mostly giving Susie a chance to run through them. These lasers are unguardable.
Phase 4
Restructuring Shock beams through almost the entire arena, as the cube rotates.

When Grandfather Haltmann is down to one-fifth of his health, he jumps to the center and attempts to fire another laser beam to down Susie, but a dimensional rift appears below him, swallowing him up in a large, orange glowing cube that resembles a Code Cube. He is then forced to use the cube to try and defeat Susie once and for all.

Attacks - Phase 4
Attack Description
Restructuring Shock The cube fires all four beams at once, with each attack rotating in a different direction. The first time this attack is performed, the lasers revolve horizontally, but eventually would sweep across in vertical directions or even a combination of both on the final attack.
  • It also defeats any Rampaging Doomers that fly around the stage when the attack begins.
  • While the lasers are revolving horizontally, this attack can be dodged by hovering. When revolving vertically, the player can simply just move out of the way.
Cube Strike The cube starts to pulsate, and jumps out of the center, bouncing around the arena and leaving orange conflagrations in its wake as it does so. It may occasionally pulsate blue and green to influence it with other elements such as falling ice and traveling electric orbs. The final attack is a large ground pound that causes an array of glowing laser beams to strike in a shockwave-like manner.
Kickoff Cubes The pulsating cube launches a storm of flying glowing Code Cubes that fly in different directions. Some of these come in different colors, which break out into icicles and electric orbs when they collide with the ground. In the True Arena, Kirby can swallow these cubes for the Fire, Spark, and Ice abilities.
Mr. Voxel The Mr. President drones that Grandfather Haltmann shoots are shaped in a cubical-like manner, and are glowing. These leave even larger explosions in their wake, but Kirby can swallow them for the Bomb ability if he wishes.
  • This is similar to Susie's Drillbit missiles.

Once Grandfather Haltmann has been defeated, the Code Cube he is trapped in starts to pulsate, absorbing energy and debris from nearby Rampaging Doomers and other discarded electronics in Another Dimension. The cube then eventually upgrades into Corrupted NOVA, the final boss of Susie Prologue.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

In Wave 1 of the Kirby's Dream Buffet: Booster Main Course Pass free DLC, it was revealed that Grandfather Haltmann will be added as a Character Treat, using his official artwork from Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe. It is set to be released alongside other new content like race tracks and battle arenas on October 30, 2024. He does not appear as a Costume or Color for Kirby, however.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

In an effort to promote Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe, a Dress-Up Mask featuring Grandfather Haltmann was added alongside several new Planet Robobot Deluxe-themed masks in a free update to Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, set to release on November 5, 2024. Wearing the Grandfather Haltmann mask replaces the wearer's voice with that of the eponymous character. His mask can be unlocked by completing Stamp Rally No. 9999.

Something's not right, to my knowledge HAL would never leak out a character like this - can anyone confirm if there's some sort of anomalous phenomenon leading up to this? Robo-EleCyon (talk) 04:44, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Spoilers! Notice: Stop right there, stubby little pink thing!
Spoilers abound! If you do not wish to read them, skip ahead to the next heading or find a different article.

For some reason, Grandfather Haltmann appears in Kirby Fighters 2, almost a year before Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe was released. His existence was accidentally leaked through the 2.0.0 update, which added him as part of the playable roster. Grandfather Haltmann always sits in his mech, which takes almost little to no damage, and he shares a similar moveset to Susie's Business Suit in Kirby Star Allies.

Unlocking Grandfather Haltmann requires a very obscure method. During a match in the Gigavolt II stage, the player must crouch on the far right side of the stage for 20 seconds, then win the match with exactly 2 HP left.

Moveset

Grandfather Haltmann moveset in Kirby Fighters 2
Skill Button Execution Description Damage (unmodified)
Jump / Double Jump
A
Grandfather Haltmann can double jump in his mech. He cannot fly.
Spin Cycle
B
Constantly spins the mech around and makes it move faster, dealing continuous chains of damage to other players. Can be used indefinitely until the player presses B again. Grandfather Haltmann is also invincible during this move. 16 per hit
Spin Cycle Dash
Left or right while in Spin Cycle
Move faster in the selected direction while performing Spin Cycle.
Mr. President
↑ + B
Several drones are launched which resemble President Haltmann. They home in on the player and deal massive damage when hit. 128
Driver Slam
↓ + B in midair
First, Grandfather Haltmann spins his mech around like a drill, which deals chain damage to caught players, then slams into the ground, releasing six shockwaves in succession that can hit other players. 69 (if all hits connect) + 10 (per shockwave)
Business Suit Explosion
Press and hold Y, L, or R
Simply causes Grandfather Haltmann to activate a self-destruct sequence on his mech, causing him to escape it. It also leaves a massive explosion in its wake, dealing great loads of damage. However, for 10 seconds, Grandfather Haltmann is stunned until he waits it out or gets hit, which in the latter's case makes him take double damage. He will summon the Business Suit thereafter. 256

Kirby's Star Stacker Ultimate

Grandfather Haltmann appears in the upcoming Kirby's Star Stacker Ultimate, a remake of the Super Famicom version of Kirby's Star Stacker. He is one of the 20 new opponents coming to Story Mode: Save the Stars!.

Music

Main article: Crazy Rolling in Money

Grandfather Haltmann has a special music track for his boss battle - a remix of Crazy Rolling in Money (President Haltmann's boss theme) known as Another Debt Elimination Scheme. It is remixed with electronic instrumentation and mechanical sounds by Yuki Shimooka and Kiyoshi Hazemoto[2], and can be found as Track 186 in the Jukebox.

As with most members of the Haltmann Works Company, Grandfather Haltmann is also associated with The Noble Haltmann, and may be even implied to be the composer and songwriter of the anthem. [citation needed]

Trivia

  • Grandfather Haltmann's appearance is derived from concept art of Magolor for Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and even moreso greatly resembles the concept more than what President Haltmann is.
    • This has led to some fans suspecting that Grandfather Haltmann may be related to Magolor due to the consistent gear motif and great resemblance to said concept art. Shinya Kumazaki has played up this statement as more of a mystery in a site preview for a November 2024 issue of Nintendo DREAM. [citation needed]
  • Grandfather Haltmann shares several similarities with Crowned Doomer, such as having an electronic remix of their theme music, acting as a penultimate boss for a new Extra Mode, and essentially being obviously more difficult than past bosses fought in the games.
  • Grandfather Haltmann is said to have been spotted as a hidden texture in Patched Plains - Stage 1 - Pixel 2401, and could be even considered as his first appearance in Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe before his actual debut as a boss of Susie Prologue.
  • Grandfather Haltmann is implied to be the creator of the Robobot Armor and its corresponding blueprints for it. This was explicitly confirmed by Shinya Kumazaki in a Kotaku interview.[3]
  • Grandfather Haltmann is said to have a neatly-groomed mustache, even much more well-done than the one on a certain plumber.
    • At least Zans Underzanne appreciates this notion. Susie was too focused on the battle to appreciate his mustache anyways.
  • Due to the article being somehow warped into WiKirby from the future as a new article, this may be technically spoilers for the upcoming Kirby: Planet Robobot Deluxe, and this trivia point made the trivia section longer than it should've been as intended.[4]
