"Gourmet Race: Intro"[conjectural title] is a recurring theme from the Kirby series that first appeared in Kirby Super Star. It received a second segment in the Japanese version of the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! anime, which has continued to appear in its future rearrangements.

Composition[edit]

The theme is a simple tune that is composed in the key of F major. In its original appearance in Kirby Super Star, the theme is quite fast-paced and rather short, since it appears during a fairly short scene. A second segment was first included in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and slowed the pace of the theme somewhat. Later appearances of the theme are generally slower-paced and more laidback.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

In its original appearance, the theme serves as the first half of the opening cutscene theme for Gourmet Race; it is track 25 in the Sound Test. It reprises this appearance in Kirby Super Star Ultra, but also appears in extended form as the Special-Edition Blooper Reel theme, which incorporates aspects of the anime's version of the theme. The original theme is track 29 in the Sound Test, while the Special-Edition Blooper Reel theme is track 108.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land, the theme appears as the theme for the Mecha Kawasaki boss in Scope Shot, sounding very similar to the anime's version. A small segment from "Magolor, the Far-Flung Traveler" is also added. It is titled "VS Mecha Kawasaki" on Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and was arranged by Hirokazu Ando. It is track 90 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land's Sound Test.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, due to the absence of the Scope Shot subgame, the theme instead plays in the newly added HAL Room of Dangerous Dinner - Stage 2.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

In Kirby Star Allies, "VS. Mecha Kawasaki" reappears as the theme for the Chef Kawasaki mid-boss battle in Extra Planet α. It is track 95 in the Jukebox and track 3-10 on The Original Soundtrack.

Other appearances[edit]

In the Japanese version of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, the theme extended with a second section first appears in A Recipe for Disaster, where it serves as Chef Shiitake's theme. The track appears on Kirby & The Amazing Mirror Sound Plus under the name "Ultimate Iron Man, Cook Osaka", which is the Japanese name for A Recipe for Disaster.

The theme also appears as a medley with "Gourmet Race" in The Sound of Kirby Café as track 3, "Gourmet! Carnival / Gourmet Race". This arrangement was done by Jun Ishikawa.
