"Game Over"[derived from Japanese] is a recurring jingle from Kirby's Dream Land that plays when Kirby runs out of lives and gets a Game Over. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.

Composition[edit]

Kirby is out of lives.

"Game Over" is a moderately short jingle in C major and swung 4/4. It progresses through the main harmonic functions (sub-dominant, dominant and tonic), albeit tinged with minor harmonies stemming from seventh chords. The melody takes a rising turn up a seventh while backed by an elaborate counterpoint, and ends in a descending passage leading back to the original height in time with a now steady harmonic accompaniment.
