- This article is about the music track from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. For the land of the dead mentioned in Kirby Star Allies and related to Morpho Knight, see Yomi.
"Underworld"[1] is a musical theme associated with stages for Halcandra in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]
Composition[edit]

"Underworld" is a somewhat eerie piece in natural B minor and 4/4. It begins with a quiet reverberated string of notes that set the tone without forming into a clearly defined melody. This set of notes repeats several times with many additional effects interjecting. The lower synthetic noises take over by the end with less discernable pitches. After this, a transitional section begins, with a soft but clear phrase from "Mid-Boss Battle", where the noises do not cease. This soon gives way to the second section, where the motif from "Exploring the Cave" and "The Birthplace of Steel" plays in B minor. The original string of notes serves as a counterpoint and reaches high registers. Then, the "Exploring the Cave" motif gains a more percussive attack, making it sound bright relative to the rest of the piece. As another transition, "Mid-Boss Battle" continues together with the first section's phrase, still at a high pitch. The first section appears to repeat with a significant increase in noise effects. The track loops properly after this.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, "Underworld" is associated with certain areas of Halcandra, playing in Egg Engines - Stage 2 and Egg Engines - Stage 4, and used as the puzzle room theme for all three regular stages in Dangerous Dinner. The song is listed as Music 62 in the original game's Jukebox, and Track 110 in the remake's Jukebox.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]
A small portion of the theme plays during the opening cutscene for the New Challenge Stages in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition. Despite this, the full theme is still present internally in the game files.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, "Underworld" is reused for the haunted area of Lollipop Land - Stage 6 EX and the mirror section of Wild World - Stage 7 EX. The music is listed as Track 70 in the game's Jukebox.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
In Kirby Star Allies, "Underworld" reappears for the night areas of Extra Planet α. The music is listed as Track 093 in the game's Jukebox.
