Mike, also known as Microphone,[1] is an item appearing in a few Kirby games, starting with Kirby's Dream Land. Picking up this item allows Kirby to defeat enemies by shouting (or singing) into the mike, using the item up afterward. Starting with Kirby's Adventure, mikes were replaced with the identically-titled and similarly-functioning Mike Copy Ability, and have not made any appearances outside of sub-games and spin-off games since.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Dream Land[edit]

Kirby using a microphone in Kirby's Dream Land.

In Kirby's Dream Land, microphones appear in fixed locations in certain stages, starting with Castle Lololo. Kirby can inhale a microphone, but can only use it by spitting it out. By doing so, Kirby shouts into the microphone, defeating all enemies within range. If Kirby swallows a microphone, he loses it, and nothing happens.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]

Mikes (here referred to as Microphones[2]) appear in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble as collectable stage items, serving the same function as in Kirby's Dream Land. Due to Kirby's inability to attack foes directly in this game in most instances, Microphones are more valuable for defeating enemies.

Kirby Air Ride[edit]

Kirby shouts into a Walky during Top Ride mode

In Kirby Air Ride, mikes were renamed to Walky, and they appear as rare items in the Top Ride mode. When picked up, Kirby pauses for a moment, and shouts into the mike, causing all other racers to become stunned, unable to move until the players controlling them mash out of it using the control stick.

Kirby Fighters series[edit]

Mikes appear in the Kirby Fighters games as a special item. When a fighter uses and shouts into the mike, all opponents receive severe damage, enough to put them into the danger state if they were not already (in which case they are KO'd), and are sent flying across the screen. Some stage hazards like Lololo and Lalala and enemies can be defeated with the mike.

In Kirby Fighters 2, the mike received some changes, now only harming fighters and stage hazards within a certain radius. Buddies can also use the Mike, with some shouting their unique battle cries. In Story Mode: The Destined Rivals, there is a story item called the Anti-Mike Charm, which reduces the amount of damage the player's fighter and partner take by 75%.
