This article is about the transformations from Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn. For the transformations from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, see Transformation (Kirby and the Rainbow Curse).

Transformation is a catch-all term used to describe the many ways in which Kirby and Prince Fluff can shape-shift their own bodies when performing certain actions in Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn.

List of transformations[edit]

Normal transformations[edit]

The following are transformations which Kirby and Fluff can undergo during normal gameplay:

Normal transformations
Transformation Button execution Description Notes
← or → twice quickly Kirby/Fluff turn into a small automobile, allowing them to travel much faster and gain momentum, but losing the ability to turn quickly. In the Frosty Wheel stage, the Sleigh is used instead, which has slightly different properties.
This transformation has a chance to be used in the title screen animation.
Hold 2 in midair Kirby/Fluff transform into a small parachute which falls very slowly and can be directed slowly to the left or right, similar to the Parasol Copy Ability in main series games. This transformation can also be used to ride along wind currents.

This transformation has a chance to be used in the title screen animation.
Latch onto a suitable button with the Yarn Whip Kirby/Fluff can swing from certain buttons as a pendulum on a rope. Using ← or → allows them to shift their momentum, and pressing 2 releases the form, conserving momentum gained into a potential jump. This transformation is used to ring the bonus bell at the end of stages.
Hold 1 after grabbing a target with the Yarn Whip Kirby/Fluff turn into a spinning top and transform something they've grabbed into a Yarn ball, which can then be thrown as a projectile. If one player rolls up another using the Yarn Whip, the other player is transformed into a baseball, and can be carried around and thrown a short distance.
Enter a narrow opening Kirby/Fluff turn into a single strand of yarn that can travel through narrow tunnels. In this form, they are forced to move constantly along the tunnel, only being allowed to change direction to go backwards or turn at a junction. They revert to normal automatically upon exiting the tunnel.

Enter water Kirby/Fluff turn into a small fish-like submarine which is propelled by repeatedly pressing 2. In this form, they can no longer jump unless it is outside of the water at its surface, but retain the Yarn Whip.

Tow truck
Grab a zipper with the Yarn Whip and move away from it Kirby/Fluff turn into little tow trucks with treads and pull on zippers after latching onto them with the Yarn Whip. This process is somewhat slow, and continues until the zipper is fully unzipped. This form has no official name, with official sources only referring to it as "zipper pulling".
↓ in midair Kirby/Fluff turn into a weight and drop rapidly to the floor, crashing through most enemies and yarn/cloth blocks in the process. In Mysterious UFO (when the gravity is turned down) and Moon Base, the weight cannot be used to attack.
This transformation has a chance to be used in the title screen animation.

Minor transformations[edit]

In addition to the normal transformations which Kirby/Fluff can use in all gameplay, there are also a number of minor transformations which they can undergo during specific situations. They are as follows (names are conjectural):

Metamortex Transformations[edit]

These transformations require the use of a Metamortex and are only found in particular areas. Once transformed, Kirby/Fluff cannot return to normal until they pass through a Reel Gate or exit the stage:
