Air-Ride-in-Style - Part II is the 97th episode (51st in the 4Kids broadcast) of the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! series, and continues the story from the previous episode: Air-Ride-in-Style - Part I. In this episode, Kirby faces off against the Air Riders and defeats them one-by-one by using novel Copy Abilities and by learning to fly the Air Ride Machines they drop in order to make up for his damaged Warp Star. After all four Air Riders are defeated, it is revealed that the entire event was a dream that Kabu sent to Tiff and Kirby in order to train them for the conflicts ahead. In reality, the Destroya is merely being sent to destroy Kabu, and Kirby has to fly and destroy it using the Crash Copy Ability, meanwhile being careful not to damage his Warp Star further.

This episode is the second part of the five-part finale to Kirby: Right Back at Ya! called Kirby: Fright to the Finish. This episode was also meant to act as a tie-in with the then recently released game Kirby Air Ride, and features several Air Ride Machines from that game. Because of this, the original American broadcast of the episode was pushed forward from the finale to the middle of the series, in order to more closely match the game's American release date.

These four abilities were submitted by young fans as part of a Japanese contest, where the winners would see their creations featured in the series.

The episode begins where Air-Ride-in-Style - Part I left off, with Kirby facing off against the Air Riders in the sky on his damaged Warp Star. The Formula Star rider starts first, and proceeds to give Kirby a rough flight. Watching from Kabu Canyon, Meta Knight instructs Kirby to inhale the rider's weapon and Kirby does so, gaining the Baton Copy Ability. From there, Kirby zaps the rider, forcing him to follow the movements of Kirby's baton. After playing around for a bit, Kirby tosses the baton spinning into the air, forcing the rider to fly off and then explode, defeating him. From here, Kirby returns to Kabu Canyon, as his Warp Star has had enough and needs to recharge again. Meta Knight suggests that Kirby fly back into battle using the now-riderless Formula Star. After just a moment getting used to the controls, Kirby takes off with the Formula Star and back into the action, but is summarily shot down by the Rocket Star rider's flamethrower. Kirby manages to avoid crashing and lands back in Kabu Canyon, where Tiff tells him to find a way to avoid the enemy's fire. Kirby flies off again and heads to the coast, where he proceeds to inhale a big gulp of water and gain the Water Copy Ability. From here, Kirby duels with the fire-throwing rider for a long moment, but the flamethrower proves too powerful still, forcing Kirby to abandon his machine. Jumping back down into the canyon, Kirby intercepts the pursuing rider while his guard is down and defeats him with the Water Gun attack.

Before Kirby can celebrate his victory for too long, he is attacked by the Winged Star rider, and is forced to take off on the Rocket Star. After several attempts to avoid the rider's flail attacks, Kirby's vehicle runs out of fuel, and he is forced to abandon it. From the ground, Kirby inhales the rider's flail to gain the Iron Copy Ability. Using this new ability, Kirby deflects the rider's further attacks, causing him to lose his second flail. From there, Kirby transforms into a giant metal statue and chases the rider down, defeating him and freeing up the Winged Star. As Kirby prepares to mount the new vehicle, he is set upon by the Shadow Star rider, who tosses exploding tops at him. After a few close calls, Kirby regains his composure and swallows one of these projectiles to gain the Top ability. Using this ability, Kirby quickly gains the upper hand by throwing tops that shear and destroy the Shadow Star, taking its rider with it. With all four Air Riders defeated, Night Mare Enterprises returns to their original attack and orders the Destroya to open fire on Kabu and those around him. Kirby swoops down to rescue Tiff from falling, but she gets knocked around by one of the bolts. Tiff then wakes up from her dream and realizes that the entire sequence of events with the Air Riders never actually happened, and that the Warp Star is still healing in its pedestal inside Kabu.

Kabu then explains that he sent Tiff and Kirby that dream in order to mentally prepare Kirby to fly using Air Ride Machines and to battle the Air Riders, which Kabu explains will be used against him in the near future. As they speak, the Destroya nears Kabu Canyon, intent on leveling the great sage to the ground. As it begins its bombardment, King Dedede and Escargoon are forced to pull back after they came to gloat in the Royal Racecar. Kabu then sends Kirby on his way using the still-damaged Warp Star in order to tackle the Destroya. After dodging several volleys, Kirby manages to worm his way into the ship's interior, where he sees the explosive bolts being manufactured. Kirby inhales three of them and gains the Crash copy ability. Using this ability, Kirby quickly vanquishes the Destroya by blowing it up from the inside. He then escapes and returns to Kabu Canyon, as his Warp Star starts to sputter out, in need of more time to recover. Watching this from afar, the N.M.E. Sales Guy and eNeMeE comment on how they may be able to take advantage of the Warp Star's weakened state, and wrestle it away from Kirby. The episode ends as Kirby looks up from inside Kabu sanctuary, sensing the danger ahead of him.

Additionally, this episode marks the first appearance of the Water Copy Ability in the Kirby series — although its only appearance in the anime — and the only appearances of the Baton, Iron, and Top abilities. These four abilities were submitted by young fans as part of the Kirby of the Stars: New Ability Contest event, with some of the winners being featured as part of this episode.

Plot synopsis[edit]

Kirby learns to pilot the Formula Star as he battles the Air Riders.

Kirby defeats the last of the Air Riders using the Top ability.

Kirby destroys the Destroya.

The episode ends as Kirby looks up from inside Kabu's sanctuary, sensing the danger ahead of him.

Differences between versions[edit]

 • In the Japanese version, an arrangement of the Green Greens theme plays when Kirby is flying off toward the Destroya.

Dialogue differences[edit]

 • In the Japanese version, when Kirby is being tailed by the Formula Star rider, Meta Knight tells Kirby to make a sudden turn to get around the rider. This is a reference to the Formula Star's main weakness in Kirby Air Ride: its very slow turn rate and acceleration.
 • In the Japanese version, Kirby shouts the names of his various attacks as he uses them.
 • In the Japanese version, Kabu explains that he used memories from the other Kabu throughout the universe in order to send Kirby and Tiff the dream about the Air Ride Machines.
 • In the Japanese version, there is no implication from eNeMeE that he wishes to take Kirby's Warp Star for himself.

Trivia[edit]

 • In the original TV airing of this episode in Japan, a prompt would appear whenever Kirby obtained one of the fan-submitted Copy Abilities, which explained that they were part of a contest and displayed the names of the winners. This particular detail would be removed in the subsequent video releases of the Japanese version, but the long shots they used to be in remain uncut.
