Ram your rivals and send 'em flying!
— in-game description of the game

Smash Ride is a Sub-Game playable in Kirby: Squeak Squad and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

Gameplay

Kirby faces off against Spinni (or his friends King Dedede, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee, or other Kirbys) and several red Squeakers while riding on a Smash Star. The main goal of the game is to gain points by pushing the player's opponents off the stage by ramming the Smash Star into them, which gives the player 1 point if done successfully.

The Smash Star can move forward in one direction by sliding the stylus in the desired direction the player wishes to go.[1] By holding the stylus on the Smash Star for a while before moving, the player can stop in place and charge up a Smash Attack, which can be used to push opponents off the stage while boosting forward in one direction.[2] If Spinni, the Squeakers, or any players fall off the stage (whether by being pushed off or by dashing off the stage), they will respawn after a few seconds at their original starting positions. There is a timer of 60 seconds for this Sub-Game, and if it runs out, the player with the most amount of points will be declared the winner on the Rankings screen.

There are three difficulty levels for this Sub-Game. On higher levels, the number of Squeakers will increase, and the opponents may resort to more erratic movements to make it more difficult for the player to stay on the stage without falling.

Trivia

  • This is the only Sub-Game in Kirby: Squeak Squad which does not involve some sort of bombs. Treasure Shot sometimes substitutes the sweets for bombs, Speedy Teatime sometimes replaces the strawberries in the cakes with bombs, and Boss Endurance allows Kirby to use the Bomb Copy Ability.
