The Dark Matter cloud is a collective group of Dark Matter that forms a mass of clouds. It appears as an antagonistic force in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. In those games, it is controlled by Dark Matter, Zero, and 0² to take over planets and influence the inhabitants of Popstar and Ripple Star.
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land 3
After being defeated in Kirby's Dream Land 2, Dark Matter once again tries to take over Dream Land alongside Zero. It uses the dark cloud to exert control over Popstar, which Kirby and his friends confront by collecting Heart Stars from each of the bosses and inhabitants of the world. After collecting all of the Heart Stars to form the Love-Love Stick and defeat Dark Matter and Zero, the dark cloud dissipates.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
- Main article: Pop Star (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)
In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, 0² tries to take over Ripple Star using the dark cloud, but the Queen acts quickly and sends Ribbon with the Crystal capable of defeating it. However, she is quickly ambushed and the Crystal splits into several shards. Fortunately, Kirby is willing to help defeating the menace. The Dark Matter cloud is not actually directly fought in this game, but three beings called Dark Rimuru, Dark Rimura, and Dark Rimuro instead possess Waddle Dee (turning him into Waddle Doo), Adeleine, and King Dedede respectively, forcing Kirby to battle with them as minibosses on Pop Star.[1] After 0² is defeated, the dark cloud dissipates, and Kirby and his friends are rewarded with medals and nominated heroes for saving the fairies and their planet.
Relation to Dark Matter
In Japanese, the Dark Matter cloud is referred to as a "dark cloud" with no relation to the individual Dark Matter who appears in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and 3. This is also the case in the English Kirby's Dream Land 3 manual. However, the English manual for Kirby 64 refers to the dark cloud as Dark Matter directly, while the Japan-only book 20th Anniversary Kirby Pupupu Encyclopedia confirms that Dark Matter and Zero control the dark cloud. Therefore, it is considered to be part of the Dark Matter species, but still a separate being from the individual Dark Matter.
