Pop Star - Stage 3 is the third stage of Pop Star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. This stage takes place in and around Castle Dedede.[1] It features a cutscene where King Dedede is possessed by Dark Matter, and then serves as a Mid-Boss for this stage. After being saved by Kirby, King Dedede reluctantly joins his party.
Overview[edit]
The stage begins outside a large castle, as Kirby progresses along the path to its front gate. A few enemies will try to get in the way, but they are no match for Kirby's pinkness. The path eventually leads across the castle drawbridge and in through the main gate.
In the castle hall, Kirby will need to progress past the Ghost Knight to reach the door up the stairs.
In the following room, Kirby can ride a moving platform, but will be ambushed by Bronto Burts and a Sir Kibble at the end.
The next room is a small column that leads up onto the walls.
Out on the walls, Kirby will need to progress past more guards, then jump down the hole on the other side.
From there, Kirby descends another columnar room, but can find a crystal shard at the bottom underneath a green barrier.
In the following room, Adeleine will paint a 1-Up for Kirby. She will only do this once.
The next area is a wide open central chamber with a starry fountain in the middle. Kirby will ascend the spiral staircase past more baddies, then climb a chain to reach the top.

The first Crystal Shard is found at the bottom of the second hole in the wall that Kirby jumps into from outside. It is under a green barrier, which can only be destroyed using some variant of the Cutter ability.
The second shard is found in the wide castle chamber with the spiral staircase. It is right behind and above the door which Kirby entered from.
The last shard is earned by defeating King Dedede, and required to beat the level. |
Mid-Boss: King Dedede[edit]
In the last room, Kirby will have to do battle with King Dedede if this is the player's first time here. A cutscene will play where King Dedede finds a shard, and the team tries to get him to hand it over, but he refuses to do so. At this point, Dark Matter appears and possesses the king (again). The resulting battle mirrors the one in Kirby's Dream Land 3, albeit with less aggressive attack patterns. Once Dedede goes down, he will come back to his senses and (reluctantly) join the party.
