“ | Magolor built a theme park on a distant world. It's filled with fun subgame attractions and nifty souvenirs! Press X to visit whenever you want! | ” | — Notice text for Merry Magoland in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe (Demo version) |
Merry Magoland is a Magolor-themed amusement park which serves as the main area where Sub-Games and other extra content can be accessed in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and one of the main additions to the remake which was not present in the original Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The park is defined by a giant lavishly-decorated castle-like structure made to resemble Magolor, which houses the doors to the various Sub-Games, though there is also a large court area in front of the castle. As of present, the conditions for unlocking Merry Magoland are not completely known, though this area is likely to open up fairly soon after starting the game. After that point, Kirby and up to three friends are free to visit the park from the World Map at any time via the Warp Star, and travel around the park using it.
Merry Magoland is run by Magolor in a top hat and wearing a large bowtie (referred to officially as "Manager Magolor"). The park is filled with various visitors, mainly Waddle Dees. There is also a permanent Waddle Dee employee named Souvenir Shop Waddle Dee who allows Kirby and friends to set special souvenir items to the stock item slot and put on Dress-Up Masks they have obtained from earning stamps.
Sub-Games
The main attraction of Merry Magoland are the Sub-Games on offer. They appear to be made available via a "Magoland Tour" which consists of various levels offered by Magolor, or they can be played individually by accessing the doors on the main castle structure. The Sub-Games are as follows, in alphabetical order:
Sub-Games in Merry Magoland | |||
---|---|---|---|
Sub-Game | Origin game | Description | Notes |
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land | A game where the contestants bat a bomb around using frying pans, and whoever doesn't bat in time gets blown up and eliminated from the game. | ||
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe | A new game where the contestants run around top-down arenas and shoot at each other using laser guns. | Likely a replacement for Scope Shot from the original Kirby's Return to Dream Land, which does not appear in this game. | |
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards | A game where the contestants run around an 8x8 grid platform and throw waves to drop tiles to try and make their opponents fall. | ||
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror | A game where the contestants charge up and punch a boulder to see who can create the deepest fissure in the ground. | ||
Kirby's Adventure | A game where the contestants catch eggs thrown by Robo Dedede while avoiding bombs. | The original game had King Dedede throwing the eggs and bombs, but this was changed since he is a possible contestant now. | |
Kirby Super Star Ultra | A game where the contestants shoot cardboard cutouts of enemies that pop up in a Wild West-like setting. | ||
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe | A new game where the contestants try to find the book that Magolor is thinking of in a library. | ||
Kirby's Return to Dream Land | A game where the contestants toss shurikens at moving targets to try and hit the bull's-eyes. | ||
Kirby Super Star | A game where the contestants strike when prompted as quickly as they can to try to come out on top. | ||
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe | A variant of Samurai Kirby which pits Kirby against the 99 most recent times from around the world. | This game depends on having connection to the internet, though it is not played live against other opponents. It is the only sub-game here that is single-player only. | |
Kirby: Squeak Squad | A game where the contestants bump each other using special "Smash Stars" to knock each other off the arena. | The Squeaks return as course obstacles as well. |
Stamps
- Main article: Stamp Rally
By playing Sub-Games, Kirby is awarded stamps which are added to his Stamp Rally card. Gaining a certain number of stamps unlocks rewards, which includes souvenir items and dress-up masks. Stamps are also awarded for finding "Hidden Magolor" stickers around the lobby in Merry Magoland, which can be found in a different location each day.
Other features
Other features known about Merry Magoland so far include the following:
- Manager Magolor can be spoken to, and he will reveal information about game statistics around the world, similar to Wise Waddle Dee in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
- There is a Missions menu which can be accessed from this area. Each minigame will have missions, and there are at least 100 objectives to meet in total. If completed, the player will earn special prizes.
Trivia
- The "Hidden Magolors" are likely a parody of Hidden Mickeys from the Disney Parks, which are symbols of Mickey Mouse hidden in the architecture or landscaping.
- Magolor's description of Merry Magoland as "the funniest place in the whole universe" is also a possible reference to the slogan of Disneyland, "the happiest place on earth".
