Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler is an Extra Mode that appears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which is unlocked after the Story Mode is complete. In it, the player plays as Magolor, who has been stranded deep within Another Dimension and has lost most of his magical powers, gaining a ragged monochrome look in the process. Throughout this adventure, Magolor can defeat enemies to gain Magic Points, which he can then use to upgrade his magical abilities. He can also find Fruit Fragments to unlock new skills and attacks. Along the way, Magolor will travel through more than 20 stages and fight different variants of bosses from the Main Mode (such as a watery version of Goriath and a fiery version of Fatty Puffer), with the goal being to eventually open a portal to return home. Like with the Main Mode, Magolor Epilogue can be played with up to four players, though everyone plays as (presumably non-canon) differently-colored Magolors.
Plot
As a result of his defeat at the hands of Kirby and his friends, Magolor had been banished to the deepest depths of Another Dimension and is stripped of most of his powers, gaining a ragged, monochrome outfit in the process. Unbeknownst to him, the Master Crown's remnants have also followed him. When Magolor wakes up, he finds himself significantly weakened. After Magolor scouts the new area for a bit, he gets assaulted by enemies. After fending them off, Magolor is able to recover a Fruit Fragment.
The fragment teleports Magolor to an altar, where it lights a torch up. As magolor traverses the dimensions, he gains more fruit Fragments from defeating more bosses. The fragments merge to form the Gem Apple Seed, but before Magolor could retrieve it, the remnants of the crown corrupt the seed and transform into an even more powerful doomer. Magolor destroys it, however, the crown once again emerges and merges with the seed to form a demonic tree. After Magolor weakens it, he pulls out a sword from the rubble and transforms it into his own Ultra Sword, destroying the crown for good.
Magolor then uses the remnant of the seed - which has transformed into a sprouting Gem Apple - to escape the dimension. The portal sends him to a parallel universe, which also changes Magolor's outfit to a new one consisting of green and white. The gem apple seedling also follows him through, and Magolor plants the apple, which then grows into a sapling, having gold markings from the remnants of the Master Crown's influence. Magolor sets up shoppe in the town and makes some new friends, along with meeting a variant of an old one.
Overview
“ | The shattered crown was scattered across dimensions, as were Magolor's powers. Now he seeks to reclaim them! Is this a journey of penance or revenge? And what surprises await at the end?! | ” | — Special Page for Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe |
The central premise of Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler is that Magolor, as a consequence of his defeat at the hands of Kirby and his friends, has been banished to the lowest depths of Another Dimension and stripped of most of his magical powers. Magolor's goal throughout this mode is to recover his lost power and eventually find his way home. As such, all of the stages in Magolor Epilogue take place in disparate dimensions, similar to the stages in Heroes in Another Dimension from Kirby Star Allies.
There are 24 main stages in Magolor Epilogue, spread across four "areas". Most of the main stages keep score in the form of Magic Points, which are earned by defeating enemies or finding them in various places in stages. Additional Magic Points may be earned by scoring "combos" on enemies, with each additional hit adding one point to the combo. At the end of each stage, the game will present the total number of Magic Points earned, and, if applicable, award a medal based on the result, similar to the scoring system for stages in Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Once Magolor gains enough Magic Points, he can enter the "Magolor's Magical Skills" menu to spend them to upgrade his abilities. If he wants to learn new skills and attacks, he needs to find Fruit Fragments scattered around the realms, which are collected from bosses in a similar way to the ship parts of the Lor Starcutter in the Main Mode. The final area, the Ethereal Altar, is unlocked once the other four areas are complete.
In terms of enemies, Magolor fights the standard enemies from the Main Mode, with the notable addition of the Darpas, Dippas, Dupas, and Deppas from Another Dimension, and other enemies bearing their Halcandran designs. There are however a number of distinct bosses based on bosses from the main story, as well as a new final boss:
- Electricky Dooter - a version of Mr. Dooter dressed as a wizard who uses lightning attacks
- Fiery Puffer - a version of Fatty Puffer with horns who uses fiery attacks
- Hydriath - a version of Goriath with a fishtail and hair made of water who uses watery attacks
- Rampaging Doomers - a group of four Sphere Doomers with horns made out of Energy Sphere gears
- Crowned Doomer - a version of Grand Doomer powered up by the shards of the Master Crown and a red fruit
- Master Crown - a manifestation of the Master Crown itself, taking the form of a large, gnarled tree by consuming the red fruit
Levels and stages
The main hub of Magolor Epilogue is subdivided into five "areas", which are analogous to levels in the Main Mode, though they are all connected together into one singular hub. As Magolor clears each stage, he can progressively unlock more and more of the hub by dispelling the clouds and gaining new skills that allow him to traverse certain barriers. There are also some hidden Magic Points in the hub itself that can be found. Each area, excepting Ethereal Altar, has up to four main stages, a boss stage, and a handful of extra stages. They are as follows:
- In the Japanese, English and Korean versions, the first letters of the areas (with Ethereal Altar at the end) spell out "APPLE", referencing the Fruit Fragments becoming a Gem Apple sprout.
- In the Chinese version, the localized names (except Poseiblu Dimension, which is romanized as B) also spell out APPLE when Romanized.
- In the German version, the first letters of the areas spell out "APFEL", which translates to "apple" in German.
- In the Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese versions, the first letters of the areas spell out "FRUTA", which translates to "fruit" in both Spanish and Portuguese.
- In the French version, the first letters of the areas spell out "POMME", which translates to "apple" in French.
Trivia
- In a Miiverse post about Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, series director Shinya Kumazaki appears to have hinted at the premise of this mode. When talking about Magolor's role in the game, he said, "Magolor’s whereabouts are uncertain after Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, but he seems pretty lively here. After roaming around the dimension beyond space and time, he might’ve found an exit."[1]
- Likewise, Kumazaki had previously stated in the July 2017 issue of Nintendo DREAM that Magolor from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe is the same person as Magolor from the main series, which is explicitly confirmed in the ending of this mode.[2]
- The Japanese subtitle for Magolor Epilogue, 異空をかける旅人 (ikū wo kakeru tabibito, "The Traveler Across Another Dimension"), is the same as the Japanese name of Distant Traveler, the final stage of Dedede's Drum Dash, though the katakana and hiragana are flipped (異空ヲカケル旅人). Likewise, the Korean subtitle for the epilogue is also identical to the Distant Traveler stage name from Dedede's Drum Dash. Consequently, the song "Distant Traveler" had its name retranslated to "Interdimensional Traveler".
- Interestingly, the opening cutscene shows Magolor Soul when flashing back to Magolor's defeat rather than his Story Mode form, even though Magolor Epilogue can be played before clearing Extra Mode.

Interviewer: Magolor from Kirby's Return to Dream Land also makes an appearance, doesn't he? Why were his clothes changed to green, instead of the original blue?
Kumazaki: For one thing, Magolor's original color scheme doesn't quite match the style of the Dream Kingdom. And it's not like he just disappeared and disguised his identity so he could appear in front of Kirby again (laughs). This is a parallel [universe], and the part where he says "My name is Magolor!" is also parallel [meaning, he has no reason to hide because this isn't the same Kirby he met before]. Magolor is a very popular character who was crucial to the story of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and I'm sure many of you have wondered about his relationship to the Magolor of this game; even though it's a parallel [universe], he is the same person [lit. "he is appearing as himself"]." –Nintendo DREAM (July 2017)
