|
“ | A deluxe edition of the Kirby: Planet Robobot subgame that features new quests and over 80 types of gear! This game can be enjoyed with up to four players cooperatively. | ” | — Past Adventures section in Kirby's Dream Buffet and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe |
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe is an expanded free-to-start sub-game released for the Nintendo 3DS eShop in 2017. It is based on Team Kirby Clash in Kirby: Planet Robobot.
Like its predecessor, Kirby can take on one of four roles, and journeys with up to three other Kirbys (also named Kirby) to battle large enemies. The gameplay is largely unchanged from the original sub-game, but many new features are added, including changing equipment, using potions and special items before battle, buying new items, and completing specific tasks during fights to earn bonuses.
A sequel to this game titled Super Kirby Clash was released for the Nintendo Switch on September 4, 2019.
Story[edit]

“ | This is a story of a faraway realm from long, long ago... A beautiful, peaceful land called the Dream Kingdom. Peace, though, can vanish in a flash... Can you defend the Dream Kingdom from a sudden onslaught of enemies? Set forth and do battle, Team Kirby! | ” | — Opening cutscene text from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe |
A traveling hero named Kirby finds his way into the Dream Kingdom, where he meets Bandana Waddle Dee and Magolor in the town square. Bandana Waddle Dee explains to Kirby the situation: many dangerous monsters are roaming the land and are in need of dispatching. The first of these is a massive Waddle Dee who threatens the Grasslands, and Kirby sets off with a partner to defeat it. Meanwhile, Magolor has set up a shop, where he sells Kirby pieces of equipment to help him in his quest. As Kirby defeats more of the monsters, other Kirbys soon join him to form Team Kirby, a team of four: Sword Hero, Hammer Lord, Doctor Healmore, and Beam Mage.
After several battles throughout the kingdom, Team Kirby eventually discovers that a rogue wizard named Taranza is guiding the rampaging enemies. They battle their way to the top of the Empyrean to stop him, but even his defeat does not stop the monsters, as the once-peaceful Guardian Angel Landia rallies the monsters. Team Kirby must then clear out the remaining enemies, then duel Landia once more in his EX form to secure the safety of the kingdom.
Even after Landia's defeat, however, something is still amiss, as invaders from a parallel dimension begin to appear in the kingdom, namely Parallel Susie and Parallel Landia. As it turns out, Taranza was being influenced by a dangerous relic known as the Black Mirror, which he was attempting to use to revive the deceased Queen Sectonia.[1] Consumed by the mirror's influence, Taranza summons Dark Taranza from it, a villainous counterpart to himself. After Team Kirby defeats Dark Taranza, he in turn summons King D-Mind from the mirror, the evil king of darkness who controls the mirror and was responsible for its influence; he immediately destroys Dark Taranza before proceeding to battle Team Kirby. After defeating him, Team Kirby sends him back through the mirror and then smashes it, sealing him in a far-off dimension and returning Taranza to normal, finally restoring peace to the Dream Kingdom.
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, it is revealed in Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler that the Magolor seen in the Dream Kingdom is the same as the one seen in the mainline Kirby games (a fact previously hinted at in a 2017 interview with Shinya Kumazaki[2]), and that he arrived in the Dream Kingdom through an interdimensional portal and proceeded to plant the town's Gem Apple tree and set up his shop prior to the events of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe.
Roles[edit]
There are four roles to choose from, each with separate equipment to purchase. Kirbys can take on multiples of the same role if they wish:
- Sword Hero - A front-line role based on Sword. Can protect his friends with a bubble shield.
- Hammer Lord - A powerhouse role based on Hammer. Very slow on his feet, but can dish out huge damage.
- Doctor Healmore - A supporting role based on Doctor. Has the power to heal his allies and himself.
- Beam Mage - A supporting role based on Beam. Has the power to stop time if he hits the enemy enough with the right move.
All four roles are capable of reviving their fallen teammates in battle given enough time to do so.
Enemies[edit]
The core gameplay revolves around 42 enemy encounters, which are unlocked in waves after previous ones are cleared. To initiate combat, Team Kirby must have at least the same amount of Vigor as the encounter's Vigor requirement. If they are low on Vigor, Team Kirby will have to wait for it to replenish, or they can use two Gem Apples to restore their meter immediately. The meter also fully replenishes and expands every time Team Kirby levels up.
Enemies can be engaged in the standard Team Quest mode, as well as in Wireless Quest mode. In Wireless Quest mode, the player can join a room with up to three other players through a wireless connection and take on one of the quests. Only the host of the room can complete Heroic Missions associated with the encounter, however.
Many enemies encountered in this game are beefed up considerably in subsequent encounters, given more Health and more attack options. Almost all enemies are faced at least twice this way, except a handful in the last area. The enemies are as follows:

Equipment & Items[edit]

At Magolor's Shoppe, Kirby is able to buy various items using the fragments and Gem Apples. While support items are generally optional, equipment is necessary to stand against tougher enemies, and to complete Heroic Missions. Gem Apples can also be bought here in the form of microtransactions from the Nintendo eShop, though this is by no means required.
For a full list of what can be bought, visit the Magolor's Shoppe page.
In the village, Bandana Waddle Dee looks after the Gem Apple tree, which can be harvested from every 12 hours (real-time). Initially, the tree offers 5 Gem Apples per harvest, but buying Gem Apples at the Shoppe will cause it to grow, and yield more. If the tree grows it will automatically yield a fresh set of Gem Apples.
Heroic Missions[edit]
The Heroic Missions are effectively achievements that can be unlocked over the course of the game. Some are generalized and can be unlocked at any point, while others pertain to specific fights. There are 256 missions in all, and completing them rewards Kirby with varying amounts of Gem Apples or Rare Fragments.
For a full list of the missions and how to unlock them, visit the Heroic Mission page.
amiibo & StreetPass support[edit]

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe allows for amiibo to be scanned in the village to earn fragments. A bronze Kirby statue is located to the left of the Shoppe in the plaza, and standing in front of it and pressing up allows the player to scan an amiibo. A Kirby series amiibo will give 20 fragments of a random type, while any other series amiibo will net 5. Kirby series Super Smash Bros. amiibo are worth 10 fragments. There is also a small chance to get a Rare Fragment with each scan. Only 5 distinct amiibo figurines can be used per 24 hour period. Additionally, StreetPass and SpotPass can be used to recruit wandering adventurers to help fight enemies.
Passwords[edit]
- Main article: List of passwords in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe
At the far right end of town, a "Shrine of Passwords" can be found. Interacting with it allows the player to enter a password given out by promotional material for the game to receive various rewards, including Gem Apples and fragments. An internet connection is required to use this feature, and a full list of passwords, both current and expired, can be found here.

Interviewer: Magolor from Kirby's Return to Dream Land also makes an appearance, doesn't he? Why were his clothes changed to green, instead of the original blue?
Kumazaki: For one thing, Magolor's original color scheme doesn't quite match the style of the Dream Kingdom. And it's not like he just disappeared and disguised his identity so he could appear in front of Kirby again (laughs). This is a parallel [universe], and the part where he says "My name is Magolor!" is also parallel [meaning, he has no reason to hide because this isn't the same Kirby he met before]. Magolor is a very popular character who was crucial to the story of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and I'm sure many of you have wondered about his relationship to the Magolor of this game; even though it's a parallel [universe], he is the same person [lit. "he is appearing as himself"]." –Nintendo DREAM (July 2017) - ↑ Team Kirby Clash Deluxe on the My Nintendo Store
