“ | Fresh ocean air and warm sunlight helped Tropic Woods grow big and strong. Its giant coconuts will cause big explosions after they drop. It has nonexploding coconuts too, and they're supposed to be delicious! Few have ever tasted them...but many have tried. | ” | — Tropic Woods' figure description in Kirby and the Forgotten Land |
Tropic Woods, titled Unfriendly Fronds, is a boss in the Kirby series, making its debut in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is a tropical spin-off of the Whispy Woods family, resembling both a palm tree and a pineapple with its bulbous trunk and dense foliage. It also has a small beard made of grass-like fibers under its mouth. Some of its abilities include using its roots to entrap Kirby and dropping a mesh fence in front of its face for protection.
Tropic Woods appears as the boss of Everbay Coast, being fought in the stage The Tropical Terror. Unlike other bosses of the game, it is not a member of the Beast Pack (probably because it's a plant), instead merely being a standalone entity that Kirby happens upon. Tropic Woods is also faced in the Meta Knight Cup and Ultimate Cup of the Colosseum. It has a stronger variant in the Extra Mode called Phantom Tropic Woods.
Attacks
Being a relative of Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods is a largely stationary boss (being only able to swivel its face towards its target), and as such, its attacks mainly consist of throwing out projectiles and reaching through the ground with its roots. Fitting for a tree, Tropic Woods is weak to Fire-based attacks: if Kirby hits it with enough fire damage, lingering flames appear on its face that deal repeated small chips of damage to the boss for a while. Much like Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods sheds a single tear after it is defeated.
The following is currently known about Tropic Woods' attack patterns (attack names are conjectural). Attacks in italics are only used in Phase 2.

Attack | Description | Variants
Coconut Shower | Tropic Woods drops large coconut boulders down from its canopy which impact the sand and then explode after a moment, leaving a Drop Star behind. The coconuts can be inhaled with enough time.
Air Bullet | Tropic Woods breathes in and spits out an Air Bullet at its target, traveling forward a moderate distance before leaving a Drop Star behind. | In the second phase, Tropic Woods lets out a whole wave of these in quick succession along a long arc.
Protective Fence | Tropic Woods brings up a large metal fence to guard part of its trunk, causing two Drop Stars to appear on the sides when it pops up and knocking close attackers away. Attacks toward the fence will be deflected. The fence drops down after a while, typically being redeployed in a new position soon thereafter.
Tunneling Roots | Tropic Woods sends out two large snaking roots that tunnel through the earth and fence Kirby in, creating Drop Stars whenever they pierce the ground. These can be destroyed by attacking them to satisfy a mission objective in the main boss stage. If not destroyed, they will eventually be withdrawn. |
Trivia
- Tropic Woods is the only story mode boss to not be refought in the Redgar Forbidden Lands.
