Clip of Flowery Woods' theme from Kirby: Triple Deluxe

 This box: view  talk  edit
Once a small blooming flower native to the floating kingdom of Floralia, Flowery Woods has become hostile and overgrown due to the magic of Dedede's mysterious kidnapper, Taranza. Watch out for this tree's razor-sharp blossoms!
— Triple Deluxe Boss description

Flowery Woods is a boss in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It bears a strikingly similar appearance to Whispy Woods, only with a green trunk at the base of which flowers bloom, a small flower blooming from the tip of its nose, and large, razor-sharp blossoms blooming from star-shaped clusters of smaller flowers that replace the expected apples and leaves, respectively. Flowery Woods is the boss of Triple Deluxe's first Level, Fine Fields, and it is also battled in The Arena and in Stage 4 of Royal Road.

Battle

Today I would like to introduce Flowery Woods, the boss of Level 1: Fine Fields. This boss starts out as just a single flower blooming in the field. However, when Taranza casts a spell on it, it turns into Flowery Woods. After losing all its grace as a little flower, Flowery Woods not only attacks Kirby with large seeds and air shots, but jumps into the background and attacks from afar with long vines. Make sure you check out the flower’s transformation scene into Flowery Woods – it’s quite a sight!
— Satoshi Ishida, Miiverse post on 06/16/2014 9:20 AM

Flowery Woods starts off with only two attacks, and the battle is markedly similar to the one with Whispy Woods in the early games. Once Flowery is down to half-health however, it jumps into the background and unleashes a great deal of new attacks, much more than Whispy had, even in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

When re-fought in Royal Road, it may also perform its Stomp Jump before the second phase.

Flowery Woods uses the first attack of Combo Root in the second phase.

The following lists all of Flowery Woods' attacks in Story Mode and The Arena in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Attacks in italics are used in the second phase of the fight only. Attack names are conjectural unless otherwise stated.

Attacks - Normal
Attack Description
花粉弾
Pollen Bullet
Flowery Woods drops two or three big grains of pollen from its flowers that bounce along the ground. In phase 2, Flowery Woods drops four or six huge grains of pollen from the background that bounce into the foreground in a semi-erratic manner. The pollen can be inhaled and spat back at the boss.
空気弾
Air Bullet
Flowery Woods spits two, four or six puffs of air that travel a short distance then home in on Kirby's positioning. In the second phase, this attack is done from the background and Flowery Woods fires three or six at a time.
グロース・ルート
Growth Route
While in the background, Flowery Woods digs its roots into the ground, which spring out of the ground as spikes, one at a time, up to five. Attacking them deals damage. Each one leaves a star when it retracts.
Flowery Woods may also dig its roots into the ground, which spring out just before the foreground and curl into place both left and right of center stage, leaving stars as they retract. Flowery Woods then jumps to a side and extends its roots again to cover the majority of the stage with roots (only leaving the side it is on exposed), following that with the same maneuver on the other side. Flowery Woods then finishes by creating two giant roots that slam down on the left and right edges of the stage, then move together in an attempt to squish anything in the middle. The roots can be attacked to deal damage.
ジャンププレス
Stomp Jump
From the background, Flowery uproots and jumps into the air, then moves into the foreground, grows somewhat in size, and attempts to stomp Kirby. This creates stars on both sides of the tree on impact. Flowery Woods may attempt multiple jumps in one go. It may combine a Stomp Jump that homes in on Kirby's positioning before following up with a "Growth Route" attack or spitting out some "Air Bullets."
フラワーブーメラン
Flower Boomerang
While in the background, Flowery Woods sends its four blossoms out as spinning rotary blades that move into the foreground. These can be inhaled and spat back at Flowery Woods, or swallowed for the Cutter Ability.

Whenever Flowery Woods is in the background, it cannot be damaged directly. However, Kirby can attack its roots (in any of their forms) whenever they are present in the foreground, which damages the boss as if it were being hit directly. Objects that can be inhaled and spat out at Flowery Woods (or its roots) in the second phase of battle are the pollen boulders, the razor-sharp blossoms themselves (which can instead be swallowed to gain the Cutter ability), and the Stars that appear following the majority of Flowery Woods' attacks.

When defeated, Flowery Woods flies into the air and bounces around before landing on the platform from Phase 2, which slants, with Flowery sliding down. It then sheds a single tear much like how its original counterpart does when defeated.

Flowery Woods DX

This once-small flower has grown to a deluxe size and has gone berserk! Its relation to Whispy Woods, which makes its home in Dream Land, is unknown.
— VS Flowery Woods DX Special Page in Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Flowery Woods DX.

A more powerful version of this boss, Flowery Woods DX, is battled at the end of Lv. 1 of Dededetour! and in The True Arena. Flowery Woods DX is generally darker than the first Flowery Woods, with a dark red trunk, purple roots, and darker leaves. The large clumps of leaves are now more diamond shaped, instead of stars, and the flowers on Flowery Woods DX's trunk and treetop have pointed petals, instead of the curved ones of the previous incarnation.

In Dededetour!, King Dedede trips before Flowery Woods DX, starting the fight.

The following lists all attacks and what enhancements they got in comparison to their normal counterparts. Attacks in italics are used exclusively in the second phase. Attack names are conjectural unless otherwise stated.

Attacks - Normal
Attack Description
花粉弾
Pollen Bullet
Flowery Woods DX drops two Gordos and two big grains of pollen which bounce along the ground. In phase 2, Flowery Woods DX drops Gordos and two or four grains of pollen that bounce into the foreground in a semi-erratic manner while in the background. In phase 2, Flowery Woods DX may spit out Air Bullets while dropping the pollen and Gordos. The pollen can be used to attack the boss.
空気弾
Air Bullet
Flowery Woods DX spits three puffs of air which travel straight forward until they are above or beneath Kirby or Dedede. Then they will split in two with one going straight up while the other one goes straight down. Flowery Woods DX may also try to home the puffs in on Kirby or Dedede, much like the original battle in Story Mode.
グロース・ルート
Growth Route
When in the foreground, Flowery Woods digs its roots into the ground and four of them shoot upwards with differing angles.
In phase 2, Flowery Woods DX may jump up in the background and start spinning itself around to fly and come circling around the background and foreground one time. If hit, Dedede and Kirby will be caught in the roots and get extra damage.
In phase 2, Flowery Woods DX may dig its roots into the ground, which spring out of the foreground as spikes, one at a time, up to seven. Attacking them deals damage. Each one leaves a star when it retracts. The roots will try to come out underneath where Kirby or Dedede currently are.
In phase 2, Flowery Woods DX may dig its roots into the ground, which spring out giant thorny roots just before the foreground and curl into place both left and right of center stage, leaving stars as they retract. Flowery Woods DX then jumps to a side and extends its roots again to cover the majority of the stage with roots (only leaving the side it is on exposed), following that with the same maneuver on the other side. Flowery Woods DX then finishes by creating two giant roots that slam down on the left and right edges of the stage, then move together in an attempt to squish anything in the middle. The roots can be attacked to deal damage.
ジャンププレス

This creates stars on both sides of the tree on impact. Flowery either attempts three stomps, growing a bit with each jump, or will leave out growing and attempt to use phase one's Root Spike DX afterwards. In phase one, Flowery Woods sometimes uses this attack to switch sides.
フラワーブーメラン

Trivia

  • According to Flowery Woods DX's pause-screen description, Flowery Woods' relation to Whispy Woods is unknown. It is interesting to note that while Whispy has lived in Dream Land for a long time, Flowery Woods is merely an ordinary flower in Floralia, the kingdom in Dream Land's sky, until Taranza uses his magic during the events of Kirby: Triple Deluxe to turn it into the monster that Kirby faces.
  • Flowery Woods makes a brief appearance in Stage 5 of Royal Road, but unfortunately for it, Kirby is in possession of the Hypernova ability, and poor Flowery is sucked in (along with its life meter) in one fell swoop.
    • This technically makes it the only boss in the series that Kirby can inhale when fighting it.
