The Cell Phone is an item which appears as a plot device in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards once to call the Warp Star in order to fight , and later in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror as a regular usable item.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]

In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, a cell phone appears briefly to call a Warp Star before final battle with .

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

Call for help with R, but watch for your batteries. Hold L to start over.
— Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Known mostly due to its helpful qualities in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, it is available from the start of the game. Its use is taught after completing the tutorial area. The Cell Phone is activated by pressing the L or R buttons, and its status appears on the top-left of the screen on the HUD.

Functions[edit]

Functions depend on which button the player presses. Pressing the R button calls Kirby's alternative selves, but consumes battery power. Kirby can cancel the call if the R button is pressed again, but it will still consume battery power nonetheless. After the other Kirbys arrive, Kirby himself can regain health by touching them. Pressing and holding the L button summons a Warp Star, which brings Kirby back to the Central Circle of Rainbow Route. Using this function does not consume any battery power, so, in-turn, it can be used when the battery power is zero. Similar to how the summoning function can be canceled, Kirby can cancel the call by releasing the L button.

Multiplayer[edit]

When playing the game with a link cable, using the cellphone with the R button causes the linked players' screens to darken, and a choice between helping the calling Kirby or not will appear by pressing the R button. This can be used to solve puzzles which the Kirbys cannot handle by themselves.

Players can borrow lives from each other when one hits a Game Over. When prompted, the borrowing player calls another player who has more than one life and can answer or decline the request. If the request is granted, the other player can continue playing from the same room. Otherwise, they will be sent back to the Central Circle.

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

The cell phone appears as a treasure in The Great Cave Offensive, replacing the dud in the original Kirby Super Star version.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, a sprite of Kirby using his cell phone, called "Kirby on the Phone", appears as a collectible keychain.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, artwork of Kirby using his cell phone, called "Kirby on the Phone" once again, appears as a collectible sticker.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Four cell phones held by Kirbys appear on "The Great Labyrinth Battle" Celebration Picture on the Kirby & The Amazing Mirror side of the picture.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, the in-game sprite of Kirby with a Cell Phone from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is used on a Character Treat.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a sticker depicting the Cell Phone can be collected. It offers +4 slash resistance to Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight.

Trivia[edit]

  • As well as changing Kirby's color, the Spray Paint option also changes the color of the Cell Phone.
  • When Kirby uses his cell phone while in UFO form, he uses a satellite dish that extends from his head instead.
