“ | The treasure chest was the prison of Dark Nebula, ruler of the underworld. Meta Knight knew the secret of the chest. He fought Kirby to prevent Dark Nebula from being released. | ” | — The narrator in [[Kirby: Squeak Squad|Template:KSS KMA]] |
Dark Nebula is the lord of the underworld and the final boss in [[Kirby: Squeak Squad|Template:KSS KMA]]. It was concealed in a treasure chest that Kirby receives after beating Daroach. However, this treasure chest was stolen by Meta Knight to make sure Dark Nebula would not be released. However, Kirby, believing that the treasure chest contains the cake he was about to eat in the beginning of the game, beats Meta Knight and the treasure chest is then stolen by the Squeaks, and the Dark Nebula is released from its prison, consuming Daroach. After Kirby defeats Daroach a second time, Dark Nebula exits Daroach's body as a small dark star bearing its normal form's color and Kirby follows it and then faces it, where it enlarges and gains an eye. After Kirby beats it, the stars that make up Dark Nebula fall out of it, leaving only its eye, which then explodes. Having defeated Dark Nebula, Kirby returns home.
Dark Nebula has, to this point, only appeared once in the series as a proper entity. It has been given some representation in subsequent titles in the form of illustrations, references, and other memorabilia, however.
Physical appearance
Dark Nebula is a large black star. It has one large eye, that being found in its center. Its color changes with its form, with a red color for fire, light blue for ice, and green for electric. Regular Dark Nebula can never be faced.

Forms
Dark Nebula has the ability to change into three different forms. Its star texture changes from a fiery texture, to ice, and then a electric texture. Depending on what texture it is depends on which form it takes, and which powers it uses. Dark Nebula moves around randomly around the screen making it harder to know when to attack.
Fire form
File:DarkZtar F.png Dark Nebula's fire form is a red star. It can now send fire to the ground, burning anything on it. Fire Wheel and Fire Tornado can be used on this fire. For its physical attack, Dark Nebula dashes around. This is the hardest to avoid.
Ice form
File:DarkZtar I.png Dark Nebula's ice form is a light blue star. It can now send a beam from its eye, freezing the ground. Ice Wheel and Ice Tornado can be used on this ice. Dark Nebula moves in a circular pattern for its physical attack, making landing a hit on it easy provided the player is careful.
Electric form
File:DarkZtar E.png Dark Nebula's electric form is a light, green star. It can now send electricity to the corners, bordering the screen with electricity. Unlike the other forms, Thunder Wheel and Tornado can't be used in the electricity. When moving around the screen, Dark Nebula moves in an "Up and Down" pattern making it harder to avoid it.
Kirby Star Allies
Dark Nebula appears in the Celebration Picture titled "Bad Boss Brothers", though it is facing away from the frame in the picture. Additionally, a mock-form of Dark Nebula appears as part of Daroach's move-set, in the move "Smack-in-the-Box". Furthermore, it also appears as an illustration by Daroach in his Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! picture.
Super Kirby Clash
In Super Kirby Clash, a collectible sticker can be purchased which resembles Dark Nebula. It comes with the caption "*staaare*" and an ominous sound effect.
Connection to Dark Matter
It is widely believed by fans of the Kirby series that Dark Nebula is another form of Dark Matter, similar to Zero. While no specific line of text in English localizations connects Dark Nebula to Dark Matter in this way, its Japanese, Chinese and Korean name of Dark Zero implies a relation. Additionally, its ability to possess other characters and a snippet from the Japanese 20th Anniversary book lumping Dark Nebula in with Dark Matter-based characters makes a compelling case that Dark Nebula is a form of Dark Matter. However, this appears to only be the case in the Japanese canon, with no such connection being established in the English localization, nor any definitive proof to point to in the games themselves.
Trivia
- Dark Nebula's transformations tint the background with its color.
- The platform upon which Dark Nebula is fought is very similar in appearance to the crystalline platforms present in Royal Road - Stage 5 and the battle with Queen Sectonia in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
