Gooey is one of Kirby's friends who appears in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land 3. He is a friendly version of the Dark Matter enemy. Gooey is a blue, sometimes purple blob with a face and a long tongue. He has arms, but they are only seen when he uses some abilities. Unlike most Dark Matter, he has two eyes.

Like Kirby, he can use Copy Abilities, but he licks enemies rather than inhaling them. He is only playable in Kirby's Dream Land 3 as the second player.

Gooey has a female counterpart named Blob, who also consists of Dark Matter.

Gooey made his debut appearance in Kirby's Dream Land 2. Here, he appears when Kirby defeats a Mid-Boss while already possessing the Animal Friend that said opponent is guarding, emerging from the bag that would otherwise have contained the animal. Acting as a collectible item instead of a helper, Gooey restores one full unit to Kirby's health meter when picked up.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Gooey made his last appearance in Kirby's Dream Land 3, where he can be called by pressing the "A" button in exchange for a full unit of Kirby's health and is playable by a second player or the AI, possessing four bars of health seperate from Kirby's. Gooey can lick enemies with his long tongue, spit them out or swallow them. Gooey can also fly and slide to attack enemies like Kirby. Additionally, he can copy an enemy's ability like Kirby does, utiliTemplate:Sing them in the same way with only optical differences. the unknown reader may get rid of Gooey at any time by making Kirby inhale and swallow him; doing so restores a full unit of health to Kirby and removes him from the game until he is called again. Gooey is also eliminated if the player who controls him (player 1 if Gooey is controlled by the CPU) repeatedly presses the "A" button, but no health is restored to Kirby by using this method.

In the final battle with Dark Matter and Zero, Gooey becomes a miniature Dark Matter and can shoot infinite stars. He is the only partner that can be used in the final battle.

Kirby Star Allies

Gooey is set to appear as a Dream Friend in this title, who will be made available from a Dream Palace after a free update to the game on March 28th, 2018. Gooey's move-set appears to be similar to the Whip ability, though it also has some unique attacks.

Trophy Information

While Kirby swallows enemies in order to copy their powers, Gooey wraps them up in his tongue to steal their abilities. In Kirby's Dream Land 2, he occasionally appeared inside of a bag, but by Kirby's Dream Land 3, he was a full-fledged partner. He could be controlled by setting him up as Player Two.

Trivia

• A tip in the Kirby's Dream Land 3 manual claims that calling Gooey would cut Kirby's vitality in half, while in reality, it only removes a unit from his health meter. This appears to be a mistake, as an earlier section of the manual correctly states that Kirby's health is only slightly reduced.
  • It is not possible for Kirby's vitality to drop below a half a bar when he calls Gooey, so a trick to save Kirby from the brink is to summon Gooey, then swallow him up to get a bar of health back.
