Revision as of 04:35, 25 March 2024

This is a list of internal names of different musical pieces from the Kirby series.

Kirby's Dream Course

The Debug Mode in the Japanese version of Kirby's Dream Course, after being patched to enable access to it.

It is possible to access each of these music tracks and sound effects through a Debug Mode in the game's Japanese version. The Debug Mode shows the internal development name given to every single music track and sound effect.

The following table lists every song's Debug Mode title in Kirby's Dream Course. The table however omits the music track (named OPENING DEMO in the Debug Mode) that plays during the opening story cutscene exclusive to the Japanese version.

Kirby's Dream Course Sound Room track list
Number Song Debug Mode name Notes
001 Medal glimmer MEDAL
002 Ending EPILOGUE
003 Opening demo BYOON
004 Title TITLE
005 Extra PRESENT FOR YOU
006 Mountain Stage YAMAYAMA Likely a romaji rendition of 山山やまやま, meaning 'mountains here, there, and everywhere' by its repetition of the kanji for 'mountain'.
007 Float Islands ISHIKAWA Likely refers to its original composer, Jun Ishikawa.
008 Alternate Course 5 theme DAMEDAME In its original Japanese form, 駄目だめ駄目だめ, translates loosely to 'no, no' (in the sense of stopping someone from doing something) or 'no good' (in the sense of not even being a little bit useful).
009 Course 6 theme SAWAYAKA Likely supposed to be さわやか or 'refreshing', an appropriate description of the track's mood.
010 Course 5 theme NIGIYAKA Likely supposed to be にぎやか, meaning 'bustling' or 'lively', an appropriate description of the track's mood.
011 Courses 1 & 3 theme NORMAL
012 Iceberg Ocean WHITE
013 Hole 8 theme SAIGO "SAIGO" is さい, meaning 'last' in the sense of 'final', referring to the use of the theme for the final hole of each course.
014 Course 4 theme YUMEYUME It is unclear whether the Debug Mode name is intended as a transliteration of ゆめゆめ (meaning 'definitely' or 'even a little bit' chiefly to underscore that something must not be done) or a simple empathetic repetition of ゆめ (meaning 'dream').
015 Kirby Dance CDANCE
016 Continue? CONTINUE
017 Done In OB The Debug Mode confusingly refers to this track as OB (and the OB music track as OB2), despite its being used specifically for non-OB KOs and missing the OB sound effect.
018 OB OB2
019 Finish SCORE
020 2P Game NEXT HOLE The debug names of this and track 024 appear to be swapped.
021 Cutscene EYECATCH An "eyecatch" is a short scene in an anime used to begin or end a commercial break. Kirby Star Allies also refers to its post-level scenes as "eyecatches".
022 Member select NAME
023 World hub COURSE 1P
024 Clear COURSE 2P The debug names of this and track 020 appear to be swapped.
025 Hole CUPIN
026 Hole in one CUPONE
027 Tutorial GAME 0
028 VS. Robo Dedede BOSS DEDEDE
029 VS. Robo Dedede: Pinch BOSS KITA Likely meant to be ボスた, meaning 'the boss comes' (as in 'when the boss comes toward Kirby').
030 VS. Robo Dedede with opening sounds BOSS DETA Likely meant to be ボスた, meaning 'the boss appears' (as in 'when the boss appears').
031 Robo Dedede defeat BOSS BKHT Likely meant to be ボスばくはつ (bakuhatsu), meaning 'boss explosion'.
032 Game Over GAME OVER

Kirby's Dream Land 3

The Debug Music Room in Kirby's Dream Land 3, "KYAAA" being the sound effect that plays when Kirby takes damage.

The game's Debug Menu has a music player and a sound effect player called the "Music Room", it includes internal development names for all the songs and sound effects; these names are stored in ASCII in the game's ROM.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

The internal names listed here are taken from a decompilation of the game data, which occasionally provide insight into the production process. See development strings extracted by shygoo, as well as results from an independent decompilation project showing both internal names for music tracks and associating them with each track after the fact. Examination of decompiled routines shows that a 8-bit value stored in RAM at the address 0xD6B44 stores an index that matches the three-digit number at the head of each track's internal name.

# Song Internal Notes
000 Grand Opening SEQ_KBYOPEN1
(but then what is SEQ_MV_GINGA_OP?)
001 Rest Area SEQ_KBYISEKIANZEN ISEKI is the internal name for The Great Cave Offensive; ANZEN (安全, "safe") likely denotes the nature of the Rest Areas associated with the music (although Ultra uses it in other contexts).
002 Corkboard SEQ_KBYSELECT
003 The Beginner's Room SEQ_KBYSHOSHINSYA SHOSHINSYA (初心者) simply means "beginner".
004 Spring Breeze SEQ_MV_HARU_OP HARU is a shortening of the full Japanese name of Spring Breeze, はるかぜとともに (harukaze to tomo ni, "Together with the Spring Breeze").
005 Spring Breeze: Title SEQ_DDX_haruopen Some tracks created for Ultra use DDX as a prefix. This is likely an abbreviation of スーパーデラックス・デラックス (Super Deluxe Deluxe) or デラデラックス (Delu-Deluxe), which were proposed subtitles for Kirby Super Star Ultra.[3]
006 Green Greens SEQ_KBYGB1 These are straightforward remixes of tracks from Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy.
007 Float Islands SEQ_KBYGB2
008 Bubbly Clouds SEQ_KBYGB3
009 Boss Battle SEQ_KBYBOSS1
010 Sparkling Star* SEQ_CLEARSTAR
011 Kirby Dance (Long) SEQ_KBYCLEAR
012 King Dedede's Theme SEQ_KBYBOSS2 Stage theme for Mt. Dedede and boss battle theme for King Dedede.
Remix of the equivalent theme from Kirby's Dream Land, with a new second half.
013 King Dedede Defeated* Sound effects for the Theater movie "Tomorrow's Wind". King Dedede flies out from the castle roof.
014 Kirby Balloon* Sound effects for the Theater movie "Tomorrow's Wind". Kirby becomes a balloon.
015 A New Wind for Tomorrow SEQ_KBYGBEND
016 Dyna Blade* Theater movie: "Dyna Blade".
017 Dyna Blade: Title* SEQ_KBYDYNAOPEN1
018 Dyna Blade: Map* SEQ_KBYDYNALEVEL
019 Peanut Plains SEQ_KBYAA Together with the Sea Stage track (SEQ_KBYBB), these tracks form an alphabetical set. It is unclear what exactly happened to SEQ_KBYCC.
020 Mallow Castle SEQ_KBYEE
021 Cave Stage SEQ_KBYFF
022 Candy Mountain SEQ_KBYDD
023 Kirby Dance (Short) SEQ_KBYCLEARSH
024 Mid-Boss Battle SEQ_KBYBONUS1 Since the track is used for an entirely optional battle in Dyna Blade, the internal name is sensible.
025 Ability Trial Room SEQ_KBYGBSELECT
026 Dyna Blade's Nest* Stage theme for Dyna Blade's Nest.
027 Battle with an Enormous Boss SEQ_KBYBOSS3DYNA
028 Live Healthy SEQ_DDX_DYNAEND
029 Gourmet Race: Intro* SEQ_KBYGURUOPEN1
030 Gourmet Race: Intro (part 2)* Sound effects for the "Gourmet Race" Theater movie.
031 Gourmet Race: Title* Second half of the "Gourmet Race" Theater movie.
Also the title theme of Gourmet Race.
032 Gourmet Race: Title (Original Kirby Movies)* Second half of the Gourmet Race intro, as heard in the Theater movie "Original Kirby Movies".
033 Gourmet Race SEQ_KBYGURUME1
034 Gourmet Race: Corn Hall* SEQ_KBYGURUME2
035 Score Tally* SEQ_KBYGURUKEKKA1 In both track names 結果 (kekka) means "results".
036 Bonus* SEQ_KBYGURUKEKKA2
037 Gourmet Race: Victory!* SEQ_KBYGURUKACHI 勝ち (kachi) simply translates to "victory".
038 Loss* SEQ_KBYGURUMAKE 負け (make) simply translates to "loss".
039 The Great Cave Offensive SEQ_KBYISEKIMAIN ISEKI, used throughout the internal names for The Great Cave Offensive's tracks, likely refers to 遺跡 ("ruins").
040 Sub-Tree Area SEQ_KBYISEKI2 Despite being used in the first stage of The Great Cave Offensive, this is the second track by number. "Crystal Area", being a "Green Greens" remix, may have been intended for use before this theme.
041 Mine Cart Area* SEQ_KBYISEKITORO TORO here is a shortening of トロッコ (torokko), a corrupted borrowing of "truck" used to refer to a minecart or other similar car on rails.
042 Crystal Area SEQ_KBYISEKI1 See notes for track 40.
043 Computer Virus Battle* SEQ_KBYBOSS1FAM The track is Boss Battle (SEQ_KBYBOSS1) in the style of a Famicom track.
044 Great Escape-Hero Up High* Theater movie: "Great Escape-Hero Up High".
045 The Great Cave Offensive: Victory!* SEQ_MV_DOUKUTU_CPL Here the track uses DOUKUTU (洞窟, "cave") instead of ISEKI.

060 Milky Way Wishes: Sparkling Star* SEQ_KBYSTARMILKY
061 Marx's Mad Plan SEQ_MV_GINGA_EYE1
062 Galactic Nova SEQ_KBYSTARSTG2 The number 2 may or may not be related to the fact that Ishikawa had to rewrite this music.
063 To the Battlefield* Theater movie: "To the Battlefield".
064 Vs. Marx SEQ_KBYSTARMARK
065 Kirby's Triumphant Return SEQ_KBYSTARKIKAN Despite the Japanese title of the track using 凱旋 (gaisen), the internal name appears to use 帰還 ("return home" without any implied triumph). Curiously, this matches the word used in the Korean name of the corresponding cutscene (커비의 귀환, although the underlying hanja would be a less simplified 歸還).

This would further imply that "Four Adventurers: Cookie Country" was also composed for this game, given that its motif is prominently featured in "Fly, Kirby!".

(Secret Song) IUK_LP_SETUNA1_2 LP_SETUNA1_2 "SETUNA" refers to 刹那, "in a flash", which in turn refers to the Japanese name of a series of reflex Sub-Games: Samurai Kirby, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land Quick Draw, Speed Eaters, Speedy Teatime, and Kirby Card Swipe as of Kirby's Return to Dream Land's release. However, Ninja Dojo is not a reflex Sub-Game, but a precision one, and its final Japanese title does not incorporate "setuna", unlike the rest. Still, "setuna" and "setsuna" were used internally to refer to Ninja Dojo in the original version of the game.

063 Misteen Ocean ECL_LP_ECBEACHK3 "K3" refers to Kirby's Dream Land 3, as this song is a remix of "Plains Stage" from said game.
064 Caverna's Great Maze tower This song plays in Planet Caverna, which is not a tower but a cave. However, it may be referring to the stage being this game's equivalent to a Tower of Mid-Bosses.
065 Frostak's Cold Land RRes "RRes" refers to "Rainbow Resort", which this song is a remix of.
066 Ancient Tower Towara ECL_LP_ECTOU1 "TOU" refers to 塔, "tower".
067 Star Lavadom ECL_LP_ECFIRESTEP1 The name refers to how this track was originally composed for Nature's Navel instead of Star Lavadom.

070 Game Over (Kirby's Blowout Blast) BGM_NPOLP_CFDLGAMEOVER1 Note the mistyped _NPOLP in place of _NOLP (meant to designate a non-looping track), carried over as is from the Kirby's Blowout Blast file name.
071 Continue (Kirby's Return to Dream Land) IUK_LP_FIFTH1 "Fifth" refers to how the song is composed using fifth chords.
072 All Big Switches Pressed! ff4
073 Entrance (Kirby's Blowout Blast) GB_QKJyo "Jyo" refers to 城, "castle", referring to this song's original purpose as the theme for Mt. Dedede's lobby.

080 Red Canyon: Stage Select (Kirby's Dream Land 2) Kirby2_RecMap
081 Sub-Tree Area (Kirby Super Star) sdxhot
BGM_LP_ECNTSDXHOT1Patch1
"SDX" refers to the Japanese name of Kirby Super Star, Kirby Super Deluxe.
Starting with version 3.0.0, the file was swapped from "sdxhot" to "BGM_LP_ECNTSDXHOT1Patch1" to correct an error where the song looped too early.
082 VS. Gryll (Kirby's Star Stacker) kiraguril Kira refers to the Japanese name of Kirby's Star Stacker, Kirby no KiraKira Kids.
083 The Last Iceberg (Kirby's Dream Land 3) k3ide "ide" is likely a misspelling of "ice".
084 VS. Dark Matter (Kirby's Dream Land 3) k3dmatter
085 True Arena Showdown (Kirby Super Star Ultra) BGM_LP_NTKKTSTAGE2 The file differs from the version that appeared in Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (SINKAKU), being slightly quieter and less compressed in dynamic range as a result. It appears to have been re-rendered, but still at 32 kHz like tracks taken from GameCube, Wii, and 3DS Kirby games, rather than the higher 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sample rates used for both new tracks and some other DS game tracks (NT_DROTCHE1, NT_USDXURA1).[5] This suggests perhaps that the track was originally re-rendered (along with the unused BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1, also in 32 kHz) for a 3DS Kirby game and carried over to this game. It is tempting to consider Kirby: Triple Deluxe as the original target, given that the unused BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1 ("Spring Breeze: Title") is used in Triple Deluxe under the same internal file name and Triple Deluxe ultimately features a new remix of "True Arena Showdown". However, per the notes for BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1, the unused BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1 in the Star Allies files is not sample-for-sample identical to the version used in Triple Deluxe and later Kirby: Planet Robobot, leaving the technical reason for the re-rendering unclear.
086 Neo Star (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards) 64korekara "korekara" refers to the Japanese name of Neo Star, コレカラスター ("Hereafter Star" or "Future Star").
087 Miracle Matter (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards) 64miracle

089 Eerie Underground (Kirby: Squeak Squad) dorotika tika refers to 地下, "underground".
090 The Black Mirror (Team Kirby Clash Deluxe) LM_TextBossMae "LM" refers to the internal codename of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, "Lime". "Mae" refers to 前, "before".

117 Final Episode Attack!! BGM_NOLP_ECDEMOTUBA1 "TUBA" refers to つばぜり合い, a state that can happen in a duel when sword to sword are locked and pushing. While this doesn't exactly happen when this effect plays, it does play during a button-mash section, which is basically that (and likely named after the first appearance of this type of gameplay, the Ultra Sword struggle with Magolor in Kirby's Return to Dream Land).

BGM_NOLP_DANCEGB1_muon
The _muon version, introduced in Version 4.0.0 of the game, and is sample-for-sample identical to the version in the original base game (used for the Goal Game easter egg) apart from the addition of just under 1.1 seconds of silence (or 無音むおん) at the end. The timing of the _muon version's addition to the game suggests that the silence has to do with the timing of music used for the Dream Button 'Celebration Picture' unlock, although the technical reasoning is unclear.
123 Hidden Corkboard (Kirby Super Star Ultra) NT_USDXURA1 "USDX" refers to the Japanese name of Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby Ultra Super Deluxe. "URA" refers to 裏 ("alternate", "hidden", "not visible at first").
124 Bring On the Super Ability (Kirby's Return to Dream Land) super_a08
125 Hypernova Inhale (Kirby: Triple Deluxe) BGM_LP_BIGSUIKOMI1 "BIGSUIKOMI" literally means "big inhale", likely a combination of the Japanese words for Hypernova (ビッグバン or Big Bang) and "inhale" (吸い込み or suikomi).
126 Pink Ball Activate! (Kirby: Planet Robobot) kaen "Kaen" (火炎) refers to "flame" or "blaze." This track is not associated with either in this game's context.

158 Pressure Panic (Kirby's Return to Dream Land) KbyW_BOSS_TYU2 The file implies this was originally composed as a Mid-Boss battle theme within the context of Kirby's Return to Dream Land ("TYU" is 中, "middle").
159 Venturing into the World with Friends pf_torteStg "torte" is the internal codename for Kirby: Planet Robobot, as this song is an arrangement of "Venturing into the Mechanized World" from said game.

185 The Adventure Begins/Original Short ver. gck_plants "gck" likely means "GameCube Kirby". This, along with the official name of the song, strongly suggests that this was the version of the song for one of the three lost Kirby games.
186 Heroes in Another Dimension BGM_LP_ECDLANOTHERTITLE1
187 Interdimensional Fanfare (Kirby's Return to Dream Land) SuperEnd The name simply refers to the original usage of the track in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, to underscore the end of a Super Ability segment before entering Another Dimension. Curiously, not only is the file name different from its Wii counterpart (SuperCcopy_Break5), but the file is truncated at just under 1.9 seconds (whereas the original track continues to fade into silence for several more seconds), and has a sample rate of 48 kHz (as opposed to the 32 kHz typical of Wii tracks).

Spring Breeze: Title (Kirby Super Star Ultra) BGM_LP_NTHARUTITLE1 This track also appeared in Kirby: Triple Deluxe with the same file name, format (apart from adaptation to bfstm from bcstm), length, loop point, and sample rate. However, while the version in Kirby: Planet Robobot is sample-for-sample identical to the Triple Deluxe file, this is not the case for the Star Allies version despite all of the shared attributes (compare BGM_LP_SIMPLE1). This suggests that Kirby Super Star Ultra tracks may have been re-rendered at 32 kHz at some point after Kirby: Planet Robobot, but given that Planet Robobot was already released during the final stages of the Nintendo Switch's development, the technical motivation is unclear. See also notes for track BGM_LP_NTKKTSTAGE2.
