"Please Don't Inhale the Cinema Patrons" is a theme from Kirby and the Forgotten Land that plays inside the Waddle Dee Cinema. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Please Don't Inhale the Cinema Patrons" is a cheery and laid-back theme in D major and swung 4/4. Starting off with a chipper accordion and bass guitar intro with augmented harmonies, it proceeds with the melody, played by a mandolin. The phrase is short, opening with a rising triad in second inversion and featuring long notes. The rhythmical pattern is repeated, and the accordion responds to both phrases. While diverging slightly, the second, descending half of the melody stays in the area of the tonic, leading to tonal stability despite the usual tendency of its base chord to resolve. Notably, semitones are completely absent throughout this melody. It is repeated quietly by a trumpet with added glockenspiel. The sweet second section introduces a new descending phrase played by a violin. Rather than an absence of semitones, this portion is characterized by its general stepwise motion. It goes through the keys of the mediant, subdominant, and submediant. It nears resolution with a tonic to mediant passage and piano arpeggio, and concludes by repeating augmented harmonies, leading to a full circle and a loop.
