"Stage: Comical"[Japanese title] is a stage theme from Kirby's Dream Land 3. Following the naming conventions for other stage themes in the game, like "Grass Land (1)", it is often referred to by fans by the conjectural name "Sand Canyon (1)"; however, the theme hasn't been named like that officially. Like all the themes from that game, this theme was composed by Jun Ishikawa.
Composition[edit]
As the name of this theme implies, Stage: Comical has a rather unserious tone to it. This theme plays in Lydian dominant F major and doesn't have any sort of intro. It starts with a melody spanning within an octave, which is played by a high-pitched instrument. The melody has lots of accidentals to add to its silliness. The melody is repeated once again, and it goes to its next portion, which hints at relative B flat minor, albeit while periodically returning to F major. The theme then goes up three notes, and does this again, but starts from the second note. It then finishes the minor key part a few measures later with a high note. After this portion, it goes into the third portion, which is a lot similar to the first portion, but it only plays the melody once. It then does something similar to the second portion of the theme, and loops shortly after.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]
This theme appears only in Sand Canyon, and can be heard in its first and fifth stage.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]
In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, this theme can be heard in the "Kirby Medley". Oddly enough, this medley mostly contains themes that appear in Kirby Super Star (and the medley itself is marked as a Kirby Super Star song in the Music Room), despite Stage: Comical being a theme from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
Other appearances[edit]
The theme is present in Track 9: Beyond the Forest and the Desert of the Kirby Memorial Arrangements album, alongside Big Forest and Aqua Star.
