"Through the Tunnel" is the theme for the stage of the same name in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]

Composition[edit]

Kirby runs through the tunnel.

"Through the Tunnel" plays primarily in the key of C major at 4/4 with the use of woodwinds, brass and percussion. It consists of two contrasting motifs. The first of these motifs is first played by a single flute with light percussion in C major. It features a rising second followed by a rising third, both sounding equally impish at their high pitch. It pauses on every fourth beat and plays again at a lower pitch, then repeats without the pause. The percussion intensifies, and the motif plays again with richer instrumentation including strings. Soon afterwards, the second motif joins. Unlike the first theme, this one has a smoother melodic line and is more serious in character, even playing in (natural) A minor rather than C major. It is somewhat reminiscent of "Rock Star"'s melody. This theme reaches very low registers while simultaneously being played by flutes. The motif plays again with ornamentation.

Following up is a C minor rising passage not unlike the minor segment of "Green Greens", playing out in a similar fashion. It reaches a G and holds a C major harmony. A rise follows with a sudden modulation to F minor as the theme goes down its scale with an electric guitar. The harmony destabilizes as motifs reminiscent of those in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. With a final fanfare, the tension is dispersed with an F major progression. The solo flute returns as the track loops.
