— In-game description of Slash & Bead.

Slash & Bead (also referred to as Meta Knight's Slash & Bead) is a Sub-Game available exclusively in Template:KEEY which stars Meta Knight.

Gameplay

Slash & Bead tasks the masked swordsman with flying through courses in an auto-scrolling environment, collecting Fuse Beads and Luminas while defeating as many enemies as possible. In addition to obtaining beads from enemies, beads will also appear out in the open, or trapped inside balloons that can be popped with any attack. Occasionally, an enemy ambush will appear with a set time limit, which Meta Knight can increase by a few seconds at a time if he defeats enough of them, allowing the wave to go on longer to potentially score more points.

Additional obstacles include yarn blocks, cloth blocks, denim blocks, platforms which can be struck with sword swipes for varying effects, flamethrowers, lava pits, and electrified floors.

Enemies

  • Bomber: A walking bomb that will detonate if it falls off a ledge.
  • Bronto Burt: A flying pink menace that can carry beads.
  • Calderon: A volcanic blob that shoots debris out of the top of its head.
  • Candlemander: A fiery salamander that crawls along walls and may turn into a fireball if angered.
  • Chain Flamer: A line of Flamer-like enemies that can appear out of nowhere. These can be defeated individually, but destroying the pink one in the middle defeats all the rest automatically.
  • Combo Cannon: A durable dual cannon that appears in Stage 4, and can fire cannonballs and a laser blast. Each piece can be destroyed individually with several hits.
  • Cutfish: An oval fish covered in spikes. Large ones can appear which will split into smaller ones when sliced.
  • Dandan: A duck-billed creature that fires energy blasts in a straight line.
  • Emba: A large fire bubble that slowly approaches Meta Knight.
  • Embaconda: A snake made of fire that flies in a wide arc and carries beads inside itself. The head may contain a Lumina.
  • Gordo: A spiky hazard that floats through the air and cannot be defeated. Best avoided.
  • Halberd cannon: A large black stationary cannon that aims and fires at Meta Knight. Takes several hits to defeat.
  • Magmotamus: A bulky creature that floats in lava. Takes several hits to defeat.
  • Orbitfly: A blue button insect that can appear out of nowhere and charges after Meta Knight with its stinger.
  • Reactor: A durable obstacle consisting of a central crystal with two flamethrowers attached that appears in Stage 4. Takes a great deal of hits to destroy.
  • Scarfy: Turns into a cyclops and attacks when Meta Knight draws near.
  • Sneak Sack: A white sack with a face and feet that will try to run away. Drops lots of beads if defeated.
  • Snip-Snap: A narrow snake-like creature that can plug into electrical outlets.
  • Spear Waddle Dee: A Waddle Dee that slowly patrols an area with a spear brandished.
  • Sulkworm: A large green caterpillar that spits out silk to attack. Takes several hits to defeat.
  • UFO: A small flying saucer that fires lasers.
  • Waddle Dee: A harmless enemy that is often asleep.
  • Waddle Doo: A cycloptic relative of Waddle Dee that can fire a beam from its eye.

Scoring

At the end of a stage, the player is given a score and rank depending on the results:

  • Each Fuse Bead collected is worth one point.
  • Luminas are worth 50 points each.
  • Each enemy defeated is worth 5 points, and may also drop additional beads.

A number of Fuse Bead Mats can also be earned for playing this game mode. One is rewarded for each rank threshold, allowing up to four to be earned in each stage.

Controls

The following actions are available to Meta Knight during this game mode:

  • Move - Any direction on + Control Pad or Circle Pad
  • Slash - A (a three-step sword combo when repeatedly pressed)
  • Piercing Slash - B (grants momentary intangibility)
