Kirby's Dream Buffet is an upcoming Kirby spin-off game for the Nintendo Switch eShop.[1] In it, Kirby is shrunk by the Dream Fork and must face off against Waddle Dees and other multi-colored Kirbys in collecting the most strawberries atop a now giant cake[2] in order to grow bigger for a final fight.[3] General gameplay will mainly revolve around racing along various food-themed stages, grabbing strawberries to grow in size. Becoming larger grants various benefits to the Kirby in question, including rolling faster down hills, and is the metric by which the winner is decided.[4] There are also some battle royale mini-game, such as reaching a goal of strawberries, collecting falling strawberries, and snatching strawberries of others by blowing them away.[5] The game can be played locally with up to four players[2] and also features online multiplayer via Nintendo Switch Online.[6] The game also features Copy Ability-like powers[2] called Copy Food abilities.[7]
Kirby's Dream Buffet is scheduled to release in Summer 2022, to be exclusively available as a digital download from the Nintendo eShop.
Story
It is currently unknown to what extent Kirby's Dream Buffet will have a story. However, a bit of backstory is shared on Nintendo's Japanese site announcing the game. It is explained that Kirby was invited to a "gourmet festival", where he found the cake shown in the opening scene. He decided to dig in using the Dream Fork instead of waiting for the festival to start, and as a result, he was shrunk down by the fork's magical powers. From there, he is joined by other Kirbys as they begin to roll around eating the now relatively giant food.[8]
Gameplay
The gameplay of Kirby's Dream Buffet revolves around racing along various food-themed courses and/or battling in food-themed arenas to collect strawberries and grow larger in size, with the goal being to be the heaviest contestant by the end of the event. These events are supervised by two giant floating white gloves who greatly resemble Master Hand & Crazy Hand, though they have yet to be confirmed as such. In the race courses, there are a number of enemies that populate the stages, resembling classic enemies from the Kirby series such as Bouncy, Kabu, and Gordo, but with food motifs. There also exist a number of stage devices and hazards, including what appear to be Bumpers and Dash Panels, also made to resemble food. Along the way, Kirbys can collide with Food Boxes to uncover various Copy Food abilities, with those revealed including abilities based on Stone, Wheel, and Tornado.
Copy Food abilities
- A chocolate bar-themed ability based on Stone[2]
- A cupcake-themed ability based on Tornado[2]
- A donut-themed ability based on Wheel[2]

Trivia
- The opening scene shown in the trailer for this game greatly mirrors the opening of the announcement trailer for Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, as both feature Kirby admiring an ornately-decorated cake topped with strawberries with a peach backdrop.
- The key art for the game features two particular colors of Kirby that are not often seen: one is a deep green/brown-footed Kirby similar to the Emerald Spray Paint last seen in Kirby: Squeak Squad, and the other is a brown-colored Kirby with darker feet not seen since Kirby Air Ride.
