"TIME BEEEAM!" is an extremely simple composition, consisting purely of a piano accompanied by percussion and samples of clock sounds. On the cue of a metallic clang, the piano begins to ascend a C-sharp major scale in a zig-zag fashion (C#-D#-C#-D#-F-F#-F-F#-...) in lockstep with the tick-tock sounds of a clock, accompanied by a lower harmony (G#-A#-G#-A#-C#-D#-C#-D#-...). However, before completing this ascent, the piano shifts to a C minor scale, which it then zig-zags up to G, suddenly resolving to C major. Percussion accentuates the latter half of this ascent, at the conclusion of which is a metallic ringing. The piano then diminishes in rapid but gentle repeating upwards arpeggiation of the C major triad. | "TIME BEEEAM!" is an extremely simple composition, consisting purely of a piano accompanied by percussion and samples of clock sounds. "TIME BEEEAM!"[1] (three "E"s) is a short musical arrangement, originally composed by Jun Ishikawa, featuring principally in the Team Kirby Clash spin-off games.
Composition[edit]
Game appearances[edit]
Team Kirby Clash series[edit]
"TIME BEEEAM!" first appears in the Team Kirby Clash Sub-Game of Kirby: Planet Robobot, playing while Beam Mage's Time Beam is in effect. The original Team Kirby Clash arrangement is reused for both standalone Kirby Clash games, Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, once again in the same context of Beam Mage's Time Beam.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]
Timed events within certain stages of Kirby and the Forgotten Land feature "Time Attack!", an orchestral version of "TIME BEEEAM!" arranged by Yuki Shimooka.[2] This version replaces the piano with sharp string attacks, and features a clock sound that tick-tocks in double-time (sounding both on the beat and on the offbeat, instead of just on the beat as in the original arrangement). Percussion chiefly uses the clock sounds, which become more intense towards the end of the track (and the timed event) and provide a sense of increasing speed, in addition to the tempo literally increasing (accelerando). In the end, the strings hold the C major chord and diminish in place, instead of arpeggiating as in the original.
As different timed events present different time limits, the track will loop the first eight beats as many times as necessary to fill out the time limit before switching to the next portion of the track (with the end of this looping marked by a prominent bell sound). The Corner Stage version loops the first eight beats once; in other words, it plays for 16 beats.
Other appearances[edit]
An acoustic arrangement of "TIME BEEEAM!" features at the start of "Tomorrow's Tea Times" from The Sound of Kirby Café 2, arranged by Hirokazu Ando. This arrangement features a xylophone in place of the original's piano melody, but also adds guitar and bass accompaniment as well as the expected percussion and clock noises. Instead of resolving to C major, the xylophone simply alternates rapidly between two G notes an octave apart as the track immediately transitions into a rearrangement of "A New Wind for Tomorrow"—although the tick-tocking clock noises recur at various points in the track.
