"Vegetable Valley" is an upbeat theme at the speed of 180 BPM. "Vegetable Valley" is a theme composed by Hirokazu Ando for Kirby's Adventure.
Composition
"Vegetable Valley" is an upbeat theme at the speed of 180 BPM. This lively song starts in G major begins with an eight measure long intro involving various chords playing in the foreground of the tune in a recognisable style of "Green Greens". The first portion of this theme plays a cheerful melody that plays twice before moving to the next eight measure portion. This portion turns the song into B major. Afterwards, the theme repeats a second time (with the third portion sounding similar to the first but with a descending bass), and the song loops.
Game appearances
Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
The theme is used mostly in the level of the same name, although it can be heard in some stages of other levels.
In Kirby's Adventure, a slightly different arrangement of theme plays in the Crane Fever Sub-Game, while the crane is still.
Interestingly, in the PAL region NES version of Kirby's Adventure (also used for the European/Australian Wii Virtual Console), the intro of "Vegetable Valley" is melodically different. While most of the soundtrack is very slightly slower and lower in pitch due to adjustments made for the 50Hz refresh rate of PAL televisions at the time, this was the only melodic change made.
In the Sound Test of Kirby's Adventure, the normal version can be found as Music 00, a version of it without the intro can be found as Music 01, and the Crane Fever version can be found as Music 09. In the Sound Test of Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, the theme can be found as Music 02. The Nightmare in Dream Land arrangement was done by Jun Ishikawa.
Kirby: Canvas Curse
A faithful arrangement of the theme plays in Plant Plain.
When the "Old School" sound mode is selected, the Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land arrangement plays in Ravine Road and Canvas Canyon.
Kirby: Squeak Squad
A version of "Vegetable Valley" based on the Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land one can be heard in Stage 2 of Prism Plains, Stage 5 of Jam Jungle, and Stage 4 of Ice Island. It is named ステージ:平地 (Stage: Plains) on Nintendo Mobile, an official Nintendo ringtone service, and can be found as track 24 in the game's Sound Player.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
After completing the game 100%, the main menu theme changes to "Special Reward Music," which partially arranges "Vegetable Valley". It can be found as Music 114 in the Wii version's Sound Test and as track 203 in the remake's Jukebox.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition
When selecting Kirby's Adventure in the Kirby's History mode, the original version of "Vegetable Valley" plays.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
The Special Reward Music from Kirby's Return to Dream Land is reused in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, where it once again plays on the mode selection screen once the game is 100% complete. It can be found as Track 131 in the game's Jukebox.
Super Smash Bros. series
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the remix titled Butter Building Ver. 2, despite its name, features more songs other than the Butter Building theme, including the Vegetable Valley theme. It's one of the default tracks of The Great Cave Offensive stage.
The remix, now named "Butter Building (for 3DS / Wii U)", reappears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, now being playable in all Kirby series stages, Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield, and Final Destination, like all other tracks. It is available from the start as a default track.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
A new remix of the theme can be found in Great Cave Escape, to later be played in the game's Music Room as track number 5.
Kirby Star Allies
The Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land arrangement plays in Inside Islands. As of the 4.0.0 update, it can be found as track 76 in the game's Jukebox.
Kirby's Dream Buffet
The original version from Kirby's Adventure, named Kirby's Adventure: Memorial Song 1 in-game, is unlocked for potential use in races when the player reaches Gourmet Rank 23.
Other appearances
The original version of the track was included in the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack, in The Very Best of Kirby: 52 Hit Tracks, and in the Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Compilation Soundtrack. Meanwhile, the Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land version was included in the Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack.
In the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack album, the theme was paired with others for a vocal remix named 星のカービィ (Kirby of the Stars).
In a prototype build of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, the Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land arrangement is used in the starting stage instead of Labyrinth Entrance Stage.[1]
In Tetris 99, the "Special Reward Music" from Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is used on the results screen after getting 1st place with the Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe theme.
