Back to the Battleship is the second stage of the level Red Volcano in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. In this stage, Kirby makes use of the Kirby Rocket transformation to infiltrate the Bastron once again. The stage plays out in a similar manner to the Kirby Rocket's Big Blastoff stage, but features an overall longer challenge with more obstacles to consider.
Completing the stage unlocks Volcanic Panic.
Overview[edit]
The stage begins with a rocky hill that gradually crumbles in segments into the lava below. In the process, a cannon is revealed that will take Kirby to the next area, though a 1-Up can also be obtained if Kirby is willing to wait for it.
Kirby is launched up to a high but flat area, where he can stumble onto a canvas. Elline uses this canvas to transform Kirby into the Kirby Rocket, and from there, he launches off toward the Bastron in the background.
Entering the Bastron again, Kirby flies down a long hallway, as Soarars come up from behind him trailing certain items. At the end of the hall is a cannon which can be used to move forward.
In the next hall, Kirby has to avoid giant buzz saws, then fly through more Soarar formations. Another cannon will take him further in.
From here, Kirby has to fly through more halls, avoiding gouts of flame that can be blocked using rainbow rope. After passing through a metal block cache, Kirby will then need to dodge more buzz saws, then avoid a few waves of Bombzway, then dodge even more buzz saws before gaining access to a switch guarded by a Cotta that opens the way forward.
The following room has Kirby activating some background panels, one of which is inside a Gray Zone.
This next area is the main feature of the stage. It begins with Kirby pressing a Big Switch inside a room. Pressing this switch activates Bastron's self-destruct sequence. After a moment of panic, Elline gets an idea to help them escape by drawing a guide line through a map of the area up ahead. Using the stylus, the player can determine what route will be best which will take the Kirby Rocket across the panels and five treasure chests in the area and then escape in under a minute. Once the line is drawn and the plan is made, the endeavor begins. While Kirby is traveling through this zone, he can pick up more stars, and in a couple spots, can find clock items that add 10 seconds to the timer. If Kirby fails to leave the area before the timer hits zero, he will be immediately defeated and will have to start the area over from the top.
After flying out of the main room, Kirby will need to head down a hall that slowly comes crashing down on him. He will need to make sure not to get stuckand hit the switch at the end quickly in order to escape.
After escaping Bastron, Kirby returns to normal form and lands on solid ground. Bastron explodes behind him, showering Kirby with lots of stars. The roulette wheel can be found immediately to the right to end the stage.
