Rainbow Across the Skies is the first stage of the level Blue Sky Palace in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. In this stage, Kirby traverses perilous heights, using clouds and Rainbow Ropes to keep from falling into the deep below. As he does this, he must also contend with numerous airborne enemies, with those not being able to fly riding balloons instead.
Completing the stage unlocks The Wild Red Yonder.
Overview[edit]
This stage begins with Kirby flying upward, high into the sky past many balloons and enemies, before landing on a stable platform up above. Two Cottas on balloons join him here, and Kirby can also find some stars and a 1-Up in the clouds before heading on to the Launch Cannon to the right to continue his journey.
The next area is an auto-scrolling zone, where Kirby will need to make use of bouncy cloud platforms and Rainbow Ropes to keep aloft, along with riding the air currents. There are relatively few enemies here, but Kirby is in constant danger of falling into the abyss below, so the ink gauge needs to be kept up enough. After scrolling to the left, the screen scrolls upward past several Point Stars, some of which come flying in on balloons. One of the treasure chests can be found on this path as well. Up at the top, a strong wind current blows upward, which Kirby will need to ride up to move forward.
This area is almost entirely open space, and a continuous current of air comes up from below to keep Kirby from falling to his doom. As the screen scrolls upward, lots of enemies ambush Kirby here, including Bzztbulbs on balloons, Trakkers, Bronto Burts, and either Bronto Knights or a big blue Bronto Burt depending on what Kirby collects. Other things can be found here too, including Candy on balloons, a treasure chest, and a Launch Cannon which can be used to go to an optional side area where another chest can be found. Otherwise, the door forward can be found at the top.
The next area starts Kirby off on solid ground once more. A door to a challenge room can be found on the left, but otherwise, the screen scrolls to the right. Kirby will find himself dangling over a dangerous abyss again, this time with less platforms to keep him safe. Lines of Gordos on balloons vie to get in Kirby's way here, but there are weak links in these chains. After a big Star Block containing another treasure chest floats by, Kirby will need to make his way through a thick cloud formation and from there, can reach the roulette wheel at the end of the stage.

This chest can be found encased in a metal block formation near the top of the second area. Kirby will need to Star Dash to get in.
This treasure chest appears near the middle of the third area's auto-scrolling section just after the Candy on balloons passes by. It rises up quickly on two balloons on the right side, so Kirby will need to get it quick and not accidentally pop the balloons from above.
Shortly after the second chest flies by, a Launch Cannon will fly by on balloons on the left side, and shortly collide with a cloud and fall back down if not interacted with. This cannon takes Kirby to a separate area, where he has to launch through cannons with the right timing to grab the chest. Note that a Soarar comes in and pops the balloon attached to the chest, which may throw Kirby's timing off.
At the beginning of the fourth area, the door to a challenge room can be found to the left. Kirby will need to be quick to get in before the screen scrolls away. Inside the room, Kirby needs to collect three formations of Point Stars in 15 seconds to make the chest appear.
Near the end of the stage, a giant Star Block goes flying upward on several balloons. Kirby needs to break this block (easily done with a Star Dash) to get the chest inside. |
