Burning Secrets, known as Up the Lava Stream in the British English version, is the first stage of the level Red Volcano in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. In this stage, Kirby must travel over many pools of hot lava and dive past lavafalls while squeezing through tight volcanic caverns. Later on, he is briefly attacked by the Bastron while riding a gondola.
Completing the stage unlocks Back to the Battleship.
The stage begins at the foot of several medium-to-large pools of lava, with sparse platforms and Point Stars hanging over them. Careful management of ink for the rainbow ropes is needed to keep Kirby from falling into the lava and being instantly defeated. To give some time to recharge ink, Kirby can be made to wait in a few sticky goo piles along the floor and walls in various places. The path leads up and to the right, past a treasure chest and through a door in a small tunnel.
In the next area, Kirby will first have to contend with thee Hot Heads. From there, he hast to dive across another wide lava pool, with more Hot Heads above it on platforms before moving forward through another door.
The following ares starts in a tunnel with a lavafall to the right. This can be blocked off using a rainbow rope just like the waterfalls from earlier parts of the game. Doing so grants access to the next part of the room, which is a vertical ascent up a tall room, where the upper chamber involves a Gray Zone stretching across it. A large number of stars can be collected up top before proceeding to the right. The small tunnel ahead features another lavafall to pass, but pressing the switch on the ceiling just beyond temporarily replaces the lavafall with a continual rain of stars. To the right from here, a hidden door to a challenge room can be found before heading through the main door forward.
The following area is another long vertical ascent, this time with a wider lavafall flowing through most of it, which will need to be periodically blocked. To the right, there is a hidden room where Kirby can use a Star Dash to defeat two Cotta Generals and ring a bell. Further up, a switch can be hit to turn this lavafall into a temporary starfall as well. Another treasure chest can be found here. The door forward is to the right of this switch.
In the following area, Kirby will need to move quickly to avoid being squished by pieces of falling ceiling. Once all of the pieces have fallen, the way forward can be accessed from a cannon on the right, but there is a hidden path forward as well which leads to a chest.
The next zone features a gondola, which Kirby can ride to get through the next series of lava tunnels. More lavafalls and Gray Zones will need to be dealt with along the way.
In the last area, Kirby is still on his gondola, now picking up speed in a wider open area where Bastron makes a reappearance. Kirby will have to avoid its attacks while picking up the puzzle pieces to get the last treasure chest. At the end of this line, the roulette wheel awaits.
Treasure Chest locations in Burning Secrets
|Treasure||How to reach|
Near the end of the first area, this chest can be found in a small niche in a cave blocked off by metal blocks. A Star Dash is needed to get inside.
Treasure 2: Revenge of the Enemy Track
At the end of the third area, a lavafall can be blocked to reveal a hidden door to a challenge room. In this room, Kirby has 15 seconds to defeat 4 Bzztbulbs to make the chest appear.
Treasure 3: Hot Head Figurine
This chest is hidden behind the lavafall in the fourth area, up near the top. It is easier to reach when the lavafall is briefly replaced with falling stars.
After avoiding the falling pieces of ceiling, Kirby can use a Star Dash to rocket up toward the open ceiling of the area past a Gray Zone. This will take him to another room where a treasure chest on balloons can be snagged, but it has to be retrieved quickly, or the balloons will pop and the chest will fall into the lava below.
Treasure 5: Cappy Figurine
In the last gondola area, where Bastron appears, Kirby will need to collect a series of puzzle pieces to obtain the last chest. Getting these pieces requires deft gondola-jumping skills.
