"Last Boss / Second Form"[Japanese title] is a battle theme debuting in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, primarily associated with Dark Mind.

Composition[edit]

The climax of the battle.

"Last Boss / Second Form" is a tense piece in B-flat minor and 4/4. It begins with a short intro consisting of a chromatically rising diminished chord progression, somewhat reminiscent of the falling chromatic progression in Nightmare's battle theme's intro, before making way to the melody. This melody is somewhat similar to "King Dedede's Theme" in phrasing and melodic structure, with a descending tonic third at its core; this similarity would see use in later arrangements (in particular when mixed with "Masked Dedede's Theme"). The melody first plays in parallel intervals, while its reiteration adds a third part, forming a bigger harmonic basis.

After this segment there is an abrupt change: while a D-flat stands as a counterpoint, the "Deep Sea Area" theme comes in as a remote yet hopeful whistle in the parallel (harmonic) D-flat major. It repeats, varied and joined by a second part that gives it a more sombre tone. The final section features two alternating minor thirds a semitone apart, together with an arpeggiated backing that preserves the key. This section serves as a link back to the original intro and melody, at which point the track loops.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

In its debut appearance, "Last Boss / Second Form", as implied by its title, plays during the battle against Dark Mind in his second form.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe / Super Kirby Clash[edit]

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and its sequel, "Last Boss / Second Form" and "Masked Dedede's Theme" are mixed together for the battle theme against King D-Mind.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

In Kirby Star Allies, "Last Boss / Second Form" plays as a part of the "Dark Mirage" medley together with "Boss Battle Theme" during the Morpho Knight battle if Player 1 is Dark Meta Knight. This medley was arranged by Yuuta Ogasawara.
