''Kirby and the Rainbow Curse'' is the first ''Kirby'' series game compatible with the ''Kirby'' series amiibo (including their ''Super Smash Bros.'' series amiibo counterparts), which can be scanned in to give Kirby a bonus during the playthrough of a stage. The bonus obtained depends on the figure used, and can only be used once a day. The Kirby amiibo allows for unlimited [[Star Dash]]es, the King Dedede amiibo provides two extra hit points and the Meta Knight amiibo allows for fast dashing through weaker enemies. | |||

amiibo are a series of collectible figurines based on characters from Nintendo franchises, which also tout functionality with various video games. Scanning in various figures will unlock bonuses in these games, which range from purely cosmetic changes to new content in the form of in-game items, characters and locations.
The first amiibo figurines that went out for sale were the ones related to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. Among them were figurines of Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, as all three were fighters in that game. Later, concurrent with the release of Kirby: Planet Robobot, came a set of official Kirby series amiibo, including Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Waddle Dee.
Several non-Kirby games unlock content based on the series when a Kirby-related amiibo is scanned. Additionally, an application released for the Wii U called amiibo tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits allows players to unlock demos of NES and SNES games, including Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Dream Course, Kirby Super Star and Kirby's Dream Land 3.
Nintendo consoles and handhelds compatible with amiibo
- Wii U
- Nintendo 3DS (special adapter required for the original 3DS and 3DS XL)
- Nintendo Switch
Kirby games compatible with amiibo
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is the first Kirby series game compatible with the Kirby series amiibo (including their Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts), which can be scanned in to give Kirby a bonus during the playthrough of a stage. The bonus obtained depends on the figure used, and can only be used once a day. The Kirby amiibo allows for unlimited Star Dashes, the King Dedede amiibo provides two extra hit points and the Meta Knight amiibo allows for fast dashing through weaker enemies.
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Kirby: Planet Robobot is the second game compatible with amiibo. Here, the figures give Kirby a Copy Ability based on what type it is, as well as some Food (and a sticker if the amiibo is a Kirby series one).
If playing Meta Knightmare Returns, Meta Knight only gains food.
If playing The Arena or The True Arena, the only way to obtain the Smash Bros. and UFO abilities in these modes is by using amiibo.
Unlike in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, amiibo outside the Kirby series are also compatible.
Below is the list of Copy Abilities that can be obtained from an amiibo. Unless otherwise specified, the Copy Ability in question applies to all of the variant amiibo of the character (e.g. Super Smash Bros.-line and Super Mario-line).
amiibo | Copy Ability | Item(s) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Kirby (Kirby) | UFO | Maxim Tomato + Sticker | This is one of only two ways to obtain this Copy Ability in Planet Robobot. |
King Dedede (Kirby) | Hammer (custom) | Maxim Tomato + Sticker | Kirby changes color to match Dedede, and gains his hat. |
Meta Knight (Kirby) | Sword (custom) | Maxim Tomato + Sticker | Kirby changes to dark blue in color, wields the Galaxia and obtains smaller versions of Meta Knight's mask and wings placed on top of his head. |
Waddle Dee (Kirby) | Parasol (custom) | Maxim Tomato + Sticker | Kirby changes color to match a Waddle Dee, and wields a spotted blue parasol instead of the usual one, also gaining a bandana similar to Bandana Waddle Dee's. |
Kirby (Smash Bros.) | Smash Bros. | Energy Drink | As with UFO, this is one of only two ways to obtain this Copy Ability in Planet Robobot. Some moves have been changed from its previous appearances to reflect Kirby's moveset from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U onward. |

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe/Super Kirby Clash
In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, scanning an amiibo will give the leader of Team Kirby various goodies, including Gem Apples and Fragments, with a rare chance of possibly receiving a Rare Fragment per scan. This can be done by visiting the Kirby statue to the left of Magolor's Shoppe in the village. Five different amiibo can only be scanned every 24 hours.
Kirby's Blowout Blast
In Kirby's Blowout Blast, there is a special collection room where Kirby can obtain large statues of himself and his friends/rivals when the player scans a Kirby series amiibo (including their Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts). This will also add more musical options to the hub, appropriate to the character scanned in. These additions are as follows based on the character scanned:
- Kirby - Adds a statue of Kirby and allows a new remix of The Adventure Begins from Kirby's Return to Dream Land to play.
- King Dedede - Adds a statue of King Dedede and allows a remix of King Dedede's Theme to play, similar to the version from the title screen of Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.
- Meta Knight - Adds two statues of Meta Knight and allows a new remix of Boarding The Halberd to play.
- Waddle Dee - Adds four statues of Waddle Dee and allows a remix of Floral Fields to play, similar to the version from Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.
Kirby Battle Royale
In Kirby Battle Royale, amiibo can be scanned in to unlock various Headgear for certain Copy Abilities or characters. The Headgear are purely cosmetic, and not required for 100% completion of the game:
- Kirby's amiibo unlocks the Ultra Sword Hat for Sword Kirby.
- King Dedede's amiibo unlocks the Masked Dedede Mask for King Dedede.
- Meta Knight's amiibo unlocks the Galacta Knight Mask for Meta Knight.
- Waddle Dee's amiibo unlocks the Café Cap for Waddle Dee.
- Qbby's amiibo unlocks the Qbby Cap for Bomb Kirby.
(Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts of Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight are also compatible.)
Kirby Star Allies
While inside a stage, an amiibo can be scanned in to give Kirby some items. Scanning in a Kirby series amiibo, a Kirby character amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series, or the Qbby amiibo will give Kirby two Picture Pieces, a pre-determined food item, and two Point Stars. Scanning in any other amiibo will give Kirby one Picture Piece, a cherry, and two Point Stars. This can be done at any point in the stage, even during Boss fights.
In The Ultimate Choice, different amiibo can be used up to 7 times in a row during a run, but this marks the results as using amiibo.
