(Miracle Matter doesn't really rule it, as cool as that would be... I like to think this is the very room in which the queen had Ribbon run with the Crystal from.)

Ripple Star - Stage 4 is the final stage of Ripple Star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. This stage pits Kirby against Miracle Matter in a roiling dark vortex. Clearing this stage either leads into the bad ending or transitions to the final level Dark Star, depending on whether or not all the Crystal Shards were collected.

Overview[edit]

Main article: Miracle Matter

Kirby faces off against Miracle Matter in a swirling dark chamber. Unlike the previous bosses, Miracle Matter is invulnerable to most attacks. It can fight in one of seven different ways, each based on one of Kirby's Copy Abilities. When it drops lingering elements, Kirby can inhale them and spit them back to deal the monster damage. Hitting it three times this way in a particular form will disable that form.

Once all of the forms are disabled, Miracle Matter explodes, relinquishing the last crystal shard for Kirby and Ribbon to collect. From here, either the bad ending plays, or Kirby moves on to the final level, Dark Star.

Battle details[edit]

Miracle Matter has seven distinct forms which it cycles through at random. When not using one of these forms, Miracle Matter is invulnerable, but it also cannot attack Kirby. Each form represents a different base Copy Ability, which means that Kirby can gain the corresponding ability by swallowing the projectiles that appear during the attack in question. Miracle Matter can only be harmed by the corresponding Copy Ability that its current form is based on, or by being hit by the projectiles it drops during that form. Attempting to attack Miracle Matter with a mismatched Copy Ability will yield no results.

Miracle Matter has 20 eyes which are visible in its default form. Each time it takes a hit, one of these eyes will go black. If hit three times while in a specific form, that form will be disabled, meaning Miracle Matter cannot use it again for the remainder of the fight. The player can tell when a form has been disabled based on an explosion effect and sound which emanates from Miracle Matter upon taking the last hit needed, as well as the immediate reversion to its normal form from the interrupted move. Once Miracle Matter is unable to use any of its forms, it is defeated, and will explode, yielding the last Crystal Shard (or, on subsequent defeats, a 1-Up or a Maxim Tomato depending on Kirby's health).

For details on Miracle Matter's forms, see the Miracle Matter page.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the original Nintendo 64 version of the game, the swirling vortex is primarily shaded black and purple, but in the Wii Virtual Console release, the purple is missing, creating a much more jarring black and white vortex. This was corrected for Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition and all future releases.
