The Neo Star is the naturalistic fourth world encountered by Kirby and his sidekick, Ribbon, on their mission to vanquish Dark Matter from their realm in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Like the Rock Star realm, the Neo Star continues the Crystal Shards tradition of stage variety, paying an emphasized homage to realistic landscapes seen on Earth, through the incorporation of volcanic climates, forest areas, subterranean caves, and mountainous passages common to the topography of our home planet.

Like in all worlds of The Crystal Shards, the first four stages within the Neo Star hide three Crystal Shards, while the final stage rewards only one after the defeat of the boss. Nevertheless, all shards within one level need not to be collected before Kirby is granted access to the next; Kirby must simply complete the level.
Overview
Neo Star is the third of the four "intermediate" worlds of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, meaning that it contains four standard stages and a fifth boss stage, with only one cutscene playing at the end of the level. Neo Star is the most wild of the planets Kirby visits in the game, with next to no structural development anywhere to be seen. Instead, Kirby must make his way through largely wild spaces, and may find the topography quite difficult to move through. Among the challenging environments Kirby must traverse, there are thick green jungles with trees towering over bottomless pits, massive underground chasms with mine cart tracks and shifting walls, high rocky mountain ranges with crumbling platforms, and an active volcanic region with rivers and lakes of lava. Unlike many other worlds, the inhabitants of Neo Star are relatively sparse, perhaps as a result of the tricky terrain.

Synopsis
Like in all intermediate worlds of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the first four stages within Neo Star hide three Crystal Shards, while the final stage rewards only one after the defeat of the boss. Nevertheless, all shards within one level do not need to be collected before Kirby is granted access to the next; Kirby must simply complete the level.
The following is a brief overview of each stage of Neo Star and their contents. For a full guide on how to obtain the Crystal Shards, see the Crystal Shard page.
Stage 1
Room 1 - The stage begins in a thick jungle. Kirby progresses to the right past tree stumps and floor traps that open up into pits.

Room 2 - The next area is a tall cliff-face on both sides. Kirby has to ascend this, while avoiding the barrage of more enemies.
Stages
Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating Magman is necessary to move on to Shiver Star. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table. For a full guide on how to obtain the Crystal Shards, see the Crystal Shard page.
Room 3 - In this area, Kirby will have to progress by jumping across vines. Near the end, the vines start to move very fast.

Stage 2
Room 1 - The stage begins with Kirby falling from a large crack in the ceiling into the cave proper. Along the way, he can collect some goodies floating in the air. The way to the next area is down below.

Room 2 - Kirby falls into a mine cart, which Waddle Dee will start pushing. Once it gets going, he hops in, and the two of them ride down the path. Along the way, several jumps will need to be made to ensure the cart does not crash or fall into the void below. At the end of the track, the cart meets a break in the rail, which causes Kirby and Waddle Dee to tumble into the chasm below.

Room 3 - Kirby lands in a deep area of the cave, and must progress to the right past several more enemies.

Room 4 - In this area, Kirby will have to progress on slippery pillars past Shotzos and Drops looking to get the drop on him.

Room 5 - This area is another walkway through the open cave. The path is pocked with holes filled with water, which have various things in them.

Room 6 - In this room, Kirby must deal with a flood of Drops before pressing on.

Room 7 - This last section of the cave has Kirby running past moving pillars that vie to crush him. The stage exit can be found at the end of this path.

Stage 3
Room 1 - The stage begins out in a high rocky plateau. Kirby will traverse a narrow stone walkway that is patrolled by various foes.

Room 2 - The next area has Kirby traversing the plateaus, and jumping over gaps along the way.

Room 3 - In this small area, Adeleine can be seen in front of something she painted. What this thing might be differs at random, but includes objects like a pizza, or a top hat.

Room 4 - In this room is a 7x7 grid of Star Blocks with a hole in the middle. No other obstacles are found here.

Room 5 - The next area is another walkway along the plateau tops. The path gets pretty bumpy, and Kirby will have to traverse platforms that will crumble under his feet. At the end, just before the stage exit, some of the plateaus spell out a familiar pink hero's name.

Stage 4
Room 1 - The stage begins in a volcanic region, outside the volcano itself. Kirby will have to dodge the falling Ignus while he makes his way across the path, over the lava, and into the volcano proper.
Room 2 - Inside the volcano, Kirby will keep moving forward past pools of magma and shifting ground. A bunch of Burning-yielding creatures will try to get in the way.
Room 3 - In the next cavernous area, King Dedede rushes in, and takes over for Kirby. Along the way, he will need to bust up a bunch of stone pillars that are blocking the path.
Room 4 - Kirby proceeds on his own from this point. This area is another large volcanic cave, and Kirby will have to walk a narrow path here, past a lot of enemies.
Room 5 - In this small room, A Chacha and two Bobos can be seen in the background, with a small lumpy mound in the middle of the path.
Room 6 - On this path, Kirby will be chased down by a wave of magma. He has to make his way past more enemies and pools of standing magma to get away from it.
Room 7 - This chamber leads upward. While Kirby climbs, he will have to mind the rising magma below. The stage exit can be found at the top.

Stage 5 (Boss: Magman)
clear

This fight happens in two phases. The first phase has Magman in the background presiding over a huge lake of magma. To attack it, Kirby will have to hit its tendrils when they appear, and can do so by swallowing a Magoo and spitting it at them.

Once Magman has had enough of this, he will appear in the same plane as Kirby, and chase him down until they reach a more solid battlefield. At this point, Kirby has to spit the Burnis that appear from infernos that Magman creates back at the creature himself. If Kirby is successful, Magman will slump and melt away, leaving the last crystal shard of Neo Star to be collected.

They all jump into the portal one-by-one, but Waddle Dee cannot keep up. Kirby emerges from the portal, and inhales Waddle Dee to get him inside before it closes.

Neo Star is the naturalistic fourth world encountered by Kirby and his sidekick, Ribbon, on their mission to vanquish Dark Matter from their realm in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Like the Rock Star realm, Neo Star continues the pattern of stage variety, paying an emphasized homage to realistic landscapes seen on Earth, through the incorporation of volcanic climates, forest areas, subterranean caves, and mountainous passages endemic to the topography of real-world locations.

Its appearance takes the form of a prehistoric jungle, including the volcano used in Stage 4.

Overview[edit]

Stages[edit]

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating Magman is necessary to move on to Shiver Star. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table. For a full guide on how to obtain the Crystal Shards, see the Crystal Shard page.
