A portion of the intro cutscene, demonstrating the Ability Changer.

After the stage is selected, a brief cutscene plays which demonstrates how the Ability Changer functions. Kirby bounces into a Bouncy to defeat it and reveal the item in question. After touching the item, Kirby cycles through all four of his abilities before settling on Stone.

Overview[edit]

Stage 9 consists of three Block Areas, one Target-Shooting Area featuring a tiny Kabula, and a Boss Area against an appropriately-sized Kabula. These rooms are lain out as follows:

Round 9-1
The first area holds a series of interspersed small Ability Blocks with other larger blocks in-between them and two Pinball Blocks placed near the center. A Bouncy occupies the lower portion of this formation, and can be crashed into to obtain an Ability Changer. Using this, Kirby can gain any of the four abilities that he wants for the stage ahead.

The area is cleared once all of the White and Gray Blocks are removed.

Round 9-2
The second area consists of a veritable labyrinth of Indestructible Blocks which somewhat resembles a Glunk in appearance. Captain Stitch resides in the middle, and Kirby will need to worm his way into the area to defeat it and obtain the Crash item to clear the area.

The area is cleared once all of the White and Gray Blocks are removed.

Round 9-3
The third area consists of three rows of varying types of blocks on each side, with a small gap in the middle guarded by a Pinball Block. Two Hatched Chicks patrol the area up above, where another paddle over a spike bed can be utilized. Buried in the blocks on each side are Switch Stars, and collecting both of them initiates a Bonus Chance. A Warp Star can be uncovered above the Pinball Block to access a Sub-Game.

The area is cleared once all of the Blocks (except the Pinball Block) are removed.

KBBa Stage 9-4.png
Round 9-4 (Target-Shooting)
The fourth area features a large central formation of Star Blocks with a few more tucked up near the top. Three paddles over spike beds can be utilized here. Patrolling the area is a tiny Kabula, who needs to be hit four times. This done, the tiny blimp retreats and a Warp Star appears to take Kirby to the Boss Area.

The area is complete once Kirby touches the Warp Star.

Round 9-5 (boss)
In the last area, Kirby must contend with Kabula, who moves around the area in a wide figure-8 and fires from her cannons. Any paddles hit will be shrunk, and star blocks hit will also be removed. Kabula has 12 hit points, and defeating her clears the stage.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the first round, it is easy to create a situation where Kirby continually bounces between the upper paddle and one of the Pinball Blocks. Once properly set up, the bouncing will continue automatically, gaining 20 points per bounce and allowing for a potentially limitless number of points.
