Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe is a Nintendo 3DS eShop-exclusive spin-off title, which expands upon the Sub-Game Dedede's Drum Dash from Kirby Triple Deluxe. It was released in 2014.

Much like the original, the player plays as King Dedede, and bounces along each stage on drum platforms to the beat of various musical pieces from the Kirby series. The goal is to reach the end of the stage with the highest score possible, by completing the stage as quickly, with as few mistakes, as many back-beats, and as many coins as possible. At the same time, Dedede must contend with various obstacles on his path, including spikes, enemies, faulty drums, and more. If he runs out of stamina or falls out, the stage ends early with no stage clear bonus. Getting a higher score can increase the Trophy rank to one of four different types. The player can also unlock masks to wear; however, some of them can only be unlocked by having data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe on the same system.

Differences from Drum Dash

  • 7 stages plus 7 alternate versions of the stage with increased difficulty in Extra mode
  • More types of obstacles
  • An overall score calculated from the sum of the stage scores
  • Collectable masks that Dedede can wear in-game

Stages

Name In-Game Description (normal) In-Game Description (secret) Audio Notes
Floral Fields
The tune from the first stage of Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Press A when landing to do a High Jump, and again to do a Super Jump!
Reimagined as a secret level, with lower health, more enemies, and tons of new obstacles!
Must Dash
A sugary-sweet melody, courtesy of Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Get up high using the Super Jump, and hit the backbeat cymbals with A!
New to this version of level 2: the blindfold banner and lots of drums that keep coming and going...
Reflected Laughter
A mischievous little number, also from Kirby: Triple Deluxe. New objects appear in this level: number coins and breakable drums.
Breakable drums everywhere! Be careful, or you're going down. And try not to miss any number coins!
Bouncing Boss Battle
Boss-battle music from Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Plenty of blindfold banners and bad guys to get in your way!
So many blindfold banners, you can barely see a thing! Watch out for the Big Gordos!
City
A tune with a hectic, urban feel from Kirby Air Ride. Take care when jumping on the spikeflip drums if you want to finish in one piece!
Spikes as far as the eye can see! Nimbly navigate the spikeflip drums, and bash all the backbeat cymbals!
Boarding the Halberd
"That tune" from Revenge of Meta Knight. Featuring a frantic tempo and introducing propeller drums!
Don't fall off those propeller drums! And look out for number coins hidden behind drifting clouds.
C-R-O-W-N-E-D
The theme from the final boss battle of Kirby's Return to Dream Land! This super-difficult level has prickly pencils poking all over the place!
The REAL final level, in all its frantic, tricky glory. Set your sights on that goal drum, and dash for the finish!
The Secret version of this level is called "C-R-O-W-N-E-D (Reprise)", and features a different arrangement of the song.

Trivia

  • Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe is the only standalone game in the Kirby series which does not feature Kirby as a playable character, though there is a Kirby mask that Dedede can wear.
    • Likewise, it is the only game in the Kirby series which does not have Kirby's name in the title. According to a Miiverse post by the developers, a working title considered for the game was "Sorry, No Kirby! Dedede's Drum Dash".[1]
  • This game and Kirby Fighters Deluxe are the only two Kirby games that came out on the same day in the same year.
  • The title can be abbreviated as "Dedede's DDD" or "DDD DDD", which was most likely intentional. Shinya Kumazaki commented on the number of "D"s in the title on a Miiverse post, joking that it may have more than any other game.[2]
  • The game takes place in a theme park constructed by Magolor.[3] Magolor himself appears in the secret final stage, cheekily holding a blindfold banner.
    • The secret final stage is designed such that the optimal route intended by the developers will result in a clear time of 1:11 and a total score of 86,555. 1/11, January 11th, is the day that Kirby: Triple Deluxe was released in Japan, and "86,555" can be read in Japanese as "HAL go go go". By deviating from the intended route, it is possible, though difficult, to clear the stage with a higher score of 86,645.[4]
